Hi, my hubby has a cb i know it a bit diff from a ham but he talks to pepo on his and we like to listen when the skip comes in on certain days, he got it to save on phone calls to his mate he just picks up the mic and shouts him..lol
Ooh my hubby used to be a CB-er back in the day when we first met! They would sit up on the moors for hours and had a big set up in his bedroom. Was quite good fun actually! They met up with a few others too. I suppose that was back before mobiles and internet though. No one uses them anymore, do they?
My uncle used to do this, CB thing. I remember the 'call' names, 'foxy lady' etc., always wanted to be foxy lady!! She was probably middle aged and over weight but she sounded soooo sexy!
There was a foxy lady here too...think the hubby went to meet her before we'd met...didnt stay there very long - in fact i think when they left they were running!!! LOL
lol I loved the CB when I was younger. Talking of the Foxy handle mine was Midnight Fox based on the NE coast of Scotland and a lot of the breakers called me Foxy for short, although I was anything but old with no teeth etc lol.
I only found out recently they scrapped the CB licences, I remember playing cat and mouse with the DTI Inspectors when they were in the area, got caught once when I was mobile but got off with it making some excuse up.
I remember playing hide and seek with the mobile lot too way out in the middle of nowhere, you used the signal meter to try finding them. Ahh the good old days.
wow this brings back memories.. in the 80's FM was so busy, was lucky to find a clear channel. had a neighbour who had a side band Rig, that was cool. so wot rigs did everyone have??
Hubby used to have a basic car one set up in the house - he'd put up a massive aerial on the side of his house by dangling his friend out of the window by the legs whilst they drilled holes and attached it!!!!! BOYS!!

Dear Purp751, I always in enjoy my CB because I had great fun DX on high hills my freiend I would spend many hours going on hot summers day on top of hill Dxing and I have large collection of Qsl cards since I have been on the Amateur Radio I have only recevie two Qsl cards out of fifty people I have spoken too over last sixmonths on the Amateur Band. We used a Jay it was aerial made up out of wire and we use baboo canes. Amateur radio is bit like CB you still have people playing music and still have people swearing and its shame because its good hobbie its like the betamax video but internet has taken over but not happy about goverment viewing are e-mails if they pass that thats not on.
Tried DXing a few times usually when I'd been dragged off somewhere I did'nt want to go by my folks so would stay in the car on the cb lol, spoke to someone in germany once that was the best I managed, also had a great uncle up in the orkney islands who was into amateur radio, but his equipment got sold when he died, else I would have been interested in trying it
CB is still around but a lot of people I know are using PMR radio the walkytalkys you can get in most electoral stores I just went out and got a Ham Radio licence now can just log in to a repeater and talk to the world.
