Does anyone know of anyone who would look after my little dog whilst i am in work, mon to fri, 8 - 6.

I cant leave him alone and he would slot perfectly into someones life who was maybe lonely or had another dog.

I cant put him in boarding kennels every day as this is cruel plus i think he's too small anyway. He would die if we sold him as he is very attached to us and me to him also.

Help anyone. I live in Moreton Wirral

I am sure everyone else is thinking this but I will say it!! Why on Earth did you get a tiny puppy knowing you would work all day!
That has to be the most selfish and insensitive thing I could imagine.
How is this little animal to grow up as a balanced and well behaved dog?
I make no apologies for hurting your feelings but your puppy needs YOU,not someone who looks after it by day(or not,it may be put in a cage and ignored)
For the puppy's sake either take it back to the breeder or do what my husband and I do, one work nights and the other days. This way our dogs are never left alone.
I can understand you wanting a dog but , please put the dog first and consider his needs.
I am expecting a lot of flack here but I stand by my views.

hi, i have to agree, however much you want a dog it has to fit in, or its just not fair on the dog.

Its a shame, such a pretty dog. I offered a friend that i would look after his patterdale by day as it chews his house, but hes not taken me up on it yet. Im sure there would be someone out there, but obviously be careful about who is caring for your dog, and in what conditions. Lots of people have lots of different views on how animals should be cared for. Shame im not closer! I would. :-)

i tpo agree with abi and polly i did read your post yesterday and was going to answer but i didnt i went away and then re read it this moring

if polly is going to get flack then so am i

the one thing i can not abide people doing is getting a cute puppy without any thought to how you will look after it it is totally unaceptable to expect a tiny pup to be left all day and it isnt good enough looking for day care why bother thats like having a kid a making a nanny bring it up

i want to return to work once my lad is at scholl but i refuse to leave my birds and dog all day so i will be looking to work in the evenings so like polly someone is always here for them
please for the puppys sake return it to the breeder dogs are not part time pets and maybe look to get an older dog that is happy to be left although your hours are realistically way to long to leave any dog

if you had come to the centre i worked in you wouldnt have been allowed a dog and the breeder shouldnt have allowed you to take a tiny puppy either
rant over

hey first off. awwww how flippin cute is he heehee im a sucker for puppies lol.

i do agree with the others (in less harsh words though hehe) however i do agree it is mean. i know you didnt intend it to be mean but mean is just what it is. i wish i lived closer because thats the type of thing im looking into doing. i have the business cards for petsitting and dog walking but im not handing them out until my pup is a little older. i mean there is ALWAYS someone in my house ALWAYS i live in a big family there has to be lol. but i want my pup to have me not just anyone.. i understand you not wanting to rehome your pup so i would say to get a night shift job if someone is home during the night.
if you live alone with your dog and its impossible for someone to be home all the time. for the sanity of the pup i would rehome it

i know its hard but you love him and want the best for him right?

good luck let us know what happens

hi, I agree, silly decision, getting a dog, if you are away for that long. sorry, but my thought on the matter. I used to look after a friends dog, a small terrier, with my GSD, they were great friends. Short term this is a good idea for the dog, and the owner. But, and there is a but, you have to either, respect the owners wishes and bring up the dog in your house, with their rules, or as the owner except that your dog will learn things that perhaps you don't want it to know - my hubby taught my friends dog to beg, she did it beautifully, my friend was furious as she didn't want her dog to beg. Her dog was allowed on the settee at her house but not in mine, you can imagine how confused the poor dog was. That isn't to say it can't work, but it takes time for the dog to settle and get used to the situation.

i respect the views of anyone taking part in this forum, everyone is entitle to their own opinions.

i dont think it is right that anyone should judge me without knowing why i need the doggy day care. I would love to sit at home with him and watch jeremy kyle all day but i work - i pay for all those who cant be bothered to get off their lazy asses and get a job - so dont rant at me about unfair!! ps. not suggesting any of you are lazy so dont shoot me!!

From your views - everyone who works 9 - 5 should not own a pet. why should i be treated unfairly if i choose to have a pet and work?? what if i cant have children and need a little sunshine in my life?? what if i got left a pet in a will with the promise to care for it??

should i just quit my well paid job and become a crazy dog woman....

The pup was living with my mum but she got poorly so now he lives with me. He is such a lovely pooch and so happy so i wouldnt dare give him away just to avoid this..... im sure if i asked him if he wanted to be re-homed to a complete stranger or not to see me for 8 hours a day - then he would choose me hands down.

i was utterly depresed when i created this thread as i needed helpful advise - not to be made to feel like a mean bitch. dont kick a girl when shes down hey, i couldnt stop crying!

your not a mean bitch hun.. i dont work and im 17 hehe im one of those lazy people you speak off. just kidding im on dissability but starting work soon lol... was that an example or cant you have kids? you dont have to answer but i just wanted you to know if you can tya can always talk to me. your not alone and there are other people out there who might be in the same boat as you. i dont think leaving a dog alone is right but only because i couldnt do it to mine. i know some poeple who have dogs and they leave it alot and the dog is fine.. you could always get a companion dog for him (if thats financially possible and also could you pop home at lunch or breaks? that would be acceptable to... the people on here shouldnt have been so harsh i hate it when people dont care about others feeling there is always a nicer way of putting whatever ya trying to or not to say

I stand by my views
Your puppy would not suffer in the least by being re-homed. It takes even an old dog just a matter of days to meld into a new "pack" and once there they don't think again of their old home. They are dogs, not children.
If you can't take care of your puppy for whatever reason then find it a loving new home.
Dogs do not suffer by being re-homed, only by not knowing where they belong.
I have been involved in re-homing for many years and believe me it is only the owner who feels bereft, not the dog.

Gosh polly - why have you got such a chip on your shoulder.......

i do respect your views but i think you need to step back a little. Dogs to some people are their babies and you shouldnt disrespect our views and choices.

i can imagine you at home power typing on your keyboard. This forum is for advice and support - not lectures - if i wanted one of those i would go back to uni!!!

I couldnt give up my boy - end of story!!! i go where he goes and so on - he is not alone, i found someone to care for him during the day and he is very happy.

Hi Kitty,

thanks for saying im not mean :-) i can be, but thats just in work!!!

As you say - its harsh when people dont consider your feelings when writing on here but thats up to them. its them who are mean and afterall. Its easy to be critical of others when you are hiding behind a computer screen.

We are looking into getting a big garden to let him play and perhaps me working from home if my job allows me to. Will have to wait and see.

How old are you kitty and what are you currently doing?

wow! another witch hunt on preloved!

I don't think anyone is suggesting that you are a bad/mean person. I have worked outside the home and have children and have always had dogs, however, my dogs have never been left for longer than 3-4 hours without someone coming home to them for longer than 10 mins going for a wee time. Its not practical to have a pet and leave them, young or old, for more than a couple of hours, they get bored, destructive and lonely. Puppies are like babies, they need constant care and attention, this is a pack animal, and in the wild would not be on their own. If you left a small child alone for more than five minutes you would be prosecuted, and in my opinion, the same should be for pets. They are a luxury not a necessity. If you can find a happy medium to have your dog and work, then thats fine, but you must make your dog a priority, its a living breathing animal with feelings and needs. I work from home now, and its a the only way for us to have the dogs. People on here love their animals and it is cruel to leave them unattended for long periods of time, no one wants to offend, but everyone does have an opinion.

Hi i think your doing great with your situation and people shouldnt judge anyone, i personally think dogs do suffer when they are rehomed, i just thinks thats what people say to justify rehoming their dogs.
A dog is for life
I hope you do get to work from home, the dog and you can do some bonding :) When i first saw this post i wante to look after your dog but you are too far away for me :)

thanks luckhurst,

i think we have bonded - he follows me everywhere and i wake up in the night and he has sneaked behind my pillow and is fast asleep by my head.

i agree with you with the rehoming - i think people just say that the dogs dont suffer to rid themselves of the guilt. Thats like saying lobsters dont feel anything when they are boiled alive when they do and it has been proven!

you could look after him if you ever move closer

Hi Kiera,

Moreton is on the coast of wirral, right next to liverpool. The river Dee runs past my house and the beach is my front garden with a large stretch of green belt land. Its so beautiful and Rolo loves it :-) i have where i live on here actually - im selling to get a big private garden for my baby boy. He loves the big field but i worry when bigger dogs are around as hes so little.

There is a castle over the road where everyone loves him - hes a little celeb. We go over to sit in the bar's garden and the bar staff feed him mini chedders, hes not really allowed them but he runs away all excited and i cant catch him hehe
