I can no longer lock my car using my remote control key. Does anyone know how much I am looking at spending for a replacement. Also I have been trying to lock the car with the key in the lock on the door. It locks then straight away all the locks pop up again also preventing me from setting the alarm.

Please help it's doing my head in.

Thanks

Hello Hazel,
Have you taken the key apart? You may find that it contains standard watch batteries that have gone dead. I know the Peugeot 405 key does as I have replaced them on my parents' car. If I remember rightly there were 2 batteries in each key, approx 1" diameter.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Remote locking is a fickle thing, the batteries could well be fine but what you could check is the remote reciever (up near the sun roof) or you could have a sticky lock barel (pardon the spelling) in the door, or a deeper electrical problem, look in the yellow pages for a specialist pug garage, or take it to the dealer, they are never as bad as you think they will be,

Hazel, i have a similar problem, my remote central locking has packed up on my r reg 306xs. Ive replaced the batteries.
Does your sun roof leak? Mine has done and water has seeped into the remote receiver. Im guessing this has damaged the electrics.
You (and I) might be able to buy a used remote receiver from a breakers yard. Should only be £5 and is very very easy to install (see Haines [Log in to view email]

My 306 had exactly the same problem, it was as if one of the doors was still open. It's common and happened to one of my friends cars aswell. My solution was to taKe out the relevant fuse and forget I ever had central locking/

after just buying a 306 with remote central locking the same fault appeared. a friend of mine informed me that the connectors in the door are prone to corrosion and this causes problems with the whole central locking system. the cure is to clean the contacts in the switch and use grease to seal and prevent corrosion. If this does not work then the central locking system needs replacing which unfortunatley is a job for Peugot where the part can be sourced.
hope this is of assisstance.

Hi,

I have recently been experiencing central locking problems on my Peugeot 306 XTDT. When you try and lock the car (either via the remote or via the door key switch), it attempts to lock all doors, but then immediately unlocks all doors. This is a security feature should a door not be closed or locked properly.

As other suggested, this is a fault with either the central locking latch switches or wiring. Trying to find the faulty latch or break in the wire is painstaking and tedious. Typically all these switches are connected in series, so any one single faulty switch will trigger the auto-unlock feature.

After hours of probing around the central locking control unit, I have now been able to identify the closed loop circuit which detects all latches have locked. I have been able to manually bypass the sensors, so the control unit "thinks" that all latches have locked okay. This prevents it from auto-unlocking.

For me, this is acceptable, as all my latches lock okay, and the fault lies within the closed loop sensor circuit. Obviously, now if I leave a door open and lock the car, it still "thinks" its locked okay. For me, this is better than no central locking! Also its not worth me spending a fortune on getting the dealer to change the faulty latches, especially when my car is now 10 years old.

For those interested in my workaround... Usual disclaimer: do the following at your own risk.

Step 1: Locate the central locking unit
On my 306 XTDT 1993 model, the central locking control unit, is behind the rear passenger seat (off-side/driver side). It is NOT under the drivers seat as told by the Haynes manual, that is actually the alarm control unit and engine immobiliser!

Step 2: Remove the unit
The central locking control unit is accessed, by folding the rear-seat and lifting the boots carpet next to the seat edge, where there are three screws. Open these, and pull out the central locking control unit from behind the seat. There is no need to disconnect the electrical connectors.

Step 3: Bypass the sensor circuit
There are two plug connectors, one black and one white, connected to the unit. To bypass the latch sensor circuit, connect a wire between M623(yellow/green wire) and 6293(blue wire), both of these wires come out of the black connector. All this can be done with the connector in situ.

Black connector
M623: yellow/green wire in corner of connector
6293: blue wire in same row as above, one hop away.

By shorting this circuit, it effectively closes the loop circuit, telling the control unit that all latches are locked okay.

Hay Presto, you have now disabled the pesky auto unlock feature! Try it by leaving a door open and locking the car, it will lock, but not auto-unlock.

Hope it works for you

Hazel have you solved the problem yet?
and how
My interest is purely selfish as I have the same (common) problem?

I've got exactly the same problem too.. In my case it seems to be to do with the front passenger door not sealing properly (so the central locking thinks it's still unlocked).. I'm going to follow Solara's advice.. I've got the same model ('93 XTDT) and I've just had a lot of questions answered!

Cheers to Solara!

Tried this modification on my 306 XRDT but it didn't work. Everything is as described but when I connect the two wires with a 'jumper' the locks go down (as if the car is trying to lock itself) and then just pop back up again. The car still won't lock using the central locking as the locks just keep popping back up again.
Solara is definately on the right track but it looks as if there is something else that needs to be done.

My Peugout 306 XL central locking has gone bananas in the last few months. Over Xmas the I would lock the doors, and about 2 hours later they would unlock by themselves. More recently I lock the doors and they go into a frenxy of locking/unlocking, perhaps 20 times in immediate succesion. Another trick is that I can be driving along, and the doors suddenly lock. Any thoughts on what the specific problem could be? Makes no difference whether I remotely lock or enter the key. One rear speaker has also started vibrating, could this be linked?

John,

The Haines manual is a book covering just about everything you could possible ever want to do to your car, from general maintenance to replacing the head gasket. All jobs are rated as to how difficult they are and are pretty thorough. I always get one when I change cars (they are vehicle specific). I buy mine from the Amazon marketplace (second hand) website. Unfortunately it doesn't discuss the unlocking problem in the manual though.

Regards
Charles

I've been having this problem for months too and went out to my car armed with all the information printed above, certain that at least one of them would put it right. The first thing I tried, however, was a squirt of WD40 straight into the lock (where the key goes). I then tried locking the door and all locks stayed down! So I would suggest giving that a try before trying anything a little more complicated!

Hope that helps y'all

Charles

my father has a 306 and he had trouble with his remote central locking. the remote was replaced at a cost of around £60. a common problem that can stop the car locks working is a broken circuit in the wiring loom that goes between the door pillar and the door on the drivers side front door. instead of replacing the loom it is easier to remove the door to peel back the rubber boot so you can repair any broken wires by soldering them. if these wires break it can give the symptons you describe.

I have a p reg 306 Dturbo...3 dr. The central locking has been playing silly buggers for about two years now.... it no longer works on the key fob so i have to manually lock it. i turn the key to lock it, it will then unlock. i turn the key to lock it again, it was preceed to unlock again...i have to repeat this process 9 times without fail to actually lock the car...but once it's locked - it's locked. Bit of a pain i know, but at least it does actually lock. took it to peugeots, explained the probs, they advised me that it was likely to be a problem with the wiring but they would charge me the unearthly sum of £150.00 per door to find the fault. think i'll stick to my repeated locking action!!!.
