Just thought I'd let you know I have been through exactly the same nonsense with my 306 D Turbo... problem was wires getting chewed up in the drivers door.

If you open the drivers door you'll see at the hinge end a black piece of rubber holding (and supposedly protecting) the wiring loom going through the door. Pull it back and if you see a load of the wires are broken that's your problem. Most of them do nothing but it seems to be the one that controls the central locking that goes first. This is the result of piss-poor french design!

Basically you need to get a new wiring loom that runs through the door, it has a black plug on the end of it. I got one from Citroen (they have exactly the same parts) for a lot cheaper then Peugeot (£30 instead of £80) and replaced it myself. Problem solved. I know the passenger door will eventually do the same so I'll have to do that. It takes a lot of soldering but it should be good for another 10 years now.

I have a 306TDLX 1998 (R) with the central locking problem. Removing the central locking control unit was a doddle. It is behind the rear seat on the drivers side as mentioned in this email thread, simply peel back the boot carpet after folding the seat forward and undo the 3 black torx screws arranged in a triangle. Restoring the seat back into position you'll find the until can be removed with the seat base lifted up. I removed the control unit, unplugged the connectors and then popped it apart. I soldered a wire between the two pins on the PCB corresponding to the wires 6293 (red) and 6291 (white) which are on the black connector. Now locking works again! Solara and Mudshark THanks!!

My 1998 306 GLX has had the same problem for months. I had adopted the fuse removal method which unfortunately, meant I couldn't lock the trunk.

After reading the forum, I found a single small white broken wire between the pillar and the driver's door. The break on mine was near the connector end of the harness. Central locking works now!

i bought a 1994 306 1.8i XT recently that had the locks-popping-back-up problem; i followed the instructions on page 1 (shorting the 2 connections in the connector) and it's fixed my problem!

many thanks, well chuffed! i didnt even have to take the 3 screws out - lifting the bottom of the rear DRIVERS SIDE seat up was enough to allow me to pull the black connector out and short the connections.

Hi
Mine has just started doing this. Didn't know it was such a "usual" problem!
Have read all the info with detail but having ripped off the interior door trim and being unable to find anything, I too squirted some grease into the lock and the problem hasn't happened since. Granted, this may be because I took it to a garage! Always makes intermittent problems go away!
So, always make sure you use lubrication!

Drivers window has started sticking now however. There's always something...

Hi, Im having the same probs with my 306 XSi and read on here about the wires getting broken up that go into the door. At first I couldnt see anything and assumed everything was fine, but after a few quotes from garages of how much it was gonna cost I decided toi have a closer look and found 3 wires broken and 1 well on its way. My first problem was the lock and then autounlock problem. As if this wasnt frustrating enough I then found my electric window on my passanger side would go down and not up and over came a big black cloud. (Not Impressed). The window is now working after I had the doors off as it is a light loom going into the doors and you cant get your fingers in there without taking them off. I fixed the ones I could see and put the doors back on. My central locking is working in all doors now but I still have the auto-unlocking problem. I have read what you wrote about the bypass. Is it possible you could tell me exactly where to find this control unit thingy as Ive looked under the seats and cant find it anywhere. Any help on this would be much appreciated as I dont think my central locking motors are going to put up with locking ten times each time I lock it as suggested by someone else on here, but it does work so thanks who ever that [Log in to view email]

Hi Reynoldsian

I had a look for mine the other weekend but as I don't have a soldering iron, I'm sticking with the lock 10 times routine for now. You need to look behind the back row of seats. Mine was directly behind the drivers side. I folded down the back seats (lifting the base first and then folding down the backrest) and then lifted the carpet slightly between the part of the boot that is now exposed and where I imagine the diesel tank to be. I immediately noticed the unit with two large plugs going into it (well, noticed the plugs first). Let me know if you have any more problems locating it and I will gladly make a photo case book for you (when I'm back from holiday though).

Good luck
C

Just wanna say that i feel like a right twit in car parks standing there locking my car ten times. I'm due some money very soon and i think my first expense will be a new locking system!! or at least to get the fault sorted anyhow. Other than that i love my Shed.

I'd probably end up doing more damage than good if i started poking round in places where i shouldn't be...might get the other half to have a look at it.

Thanks for the advice though.

Hi..My daughters P reg 306 diesel has the same problem. I have shorted the 2 wires in the back (Yellow/green and white on opposite corners of the connector) on the same row, and it worked for about a week. Now the problem has come back and we can't lock it at all! So I was going to revert to removing the fuse (F17 under the dash) Took out the fuse and the central locking STILL activates!!! Where is it getting it's power from??? Any more info appreciated. By the way, we have tried WD40 in the locks..plus the previous owner repaired the drivers side loom.

Hi...By a process of elimination ie. pulling one fuse out at a time! I eventually found that it was fuse 14 (20 amp) that was for the central locking!!! Contrary to the Peugeot booklet that said it was fuse 17 (15 amp)!! Now on manual locking like the good ole days!!!

I am having a similar problem with my central locking. I locked my car using the "plip" but when i came back to the car the "plip" didnt work. I unlocked the door with the key instead a tried to start the car, but because I hadnt used the plip to disarm the immobiliser it wouldnt let me start the car. I managed to bump start it to get it home, since i have tried using both "plips" with new batteries in still no luck. In the engine bay there is a master switch which you can use to turn off the immobiliser but I dont have this key as I bought it second hand, and apparently is no longer available from Peugot!! has anyone got any ideas on how I might be able to reset the immobiliser so I can start my car??

I have it on good authority that central locking systems dont go wrong. There is a rubber boot over a cable loom between the pillar and the drivers door. Slide this up and repair the broken wire(s) that you will find. Central locking problem cured.

I've got a peugeot 306 d estate, boot lock has decided it dosent like to be locked with the rest of the doors and needs to be done manually, do you think this would also be due to the wires in the drivers door. Im going to try cleaning the lock and greasing it but dont have a clue if this will work.

Pls help

I think i know what might be wrong it is a common problem. The wires going in to the drivers door get cut through by a plasit cover that over time wares out. It happend on my mates 306 TDI and you can't lock it or anything. If it is that problem then you will be looking abt between £185 and £220 to get t fixed by a main dealier. Best bet is to go to an auto electrian which would be cheaper.
