Hi again John,
Just for info....both the fobs I have are 2 button and they are definately Infra Red......they have the I/R led just above, and to the right of, the key blade. It seems there are 2 button R/F ones as well when I look on ebay. Think the R/F ones were for later models. If a single button fob will work the remote unlocking etc then it would be fine.
Although the car is 1996 it is in very good nick, no rust and only 64,000 on the clock. owned by a succesion of little old ladies!!
thanks again & regards
John

John
You're may well be right about the 2 button key, I don't know.
I also got a good 306 for my son, owned by a rather larger old lady with dogs, but it cleaned up well! I learned a lot about central locking as this one had been in a flood which wrecked the control box under the seat.

Ancient, did you ever find replacement manual locks for 306? If so, where?? My boot is locked shut, and whirrs when the central locking is operated. The boot has a key hole but the lock is quite stuck. The car hasn't locked/unlocked normally for 2 yrs, has a mind of its own...manual has been working fine up till now. I'd be happier with a good old fashioned mechanism.

It is easy to lock - just lift the hatch knock the rod over to lock and it is secure

i need to know how to test the rest of the system before i buy a new hatch motor - any ideas what i do with =the two electric feeds to this motor to see if the rest of sytem works

Help!!!

I have just bought a 97 Reg 5 door 306 D Turbo.

There are two current problems with my Central locking.

The first is the Remote does not work, it has air con so there is no sunroof so It has not leaked on the receiver. Using the key all doors lock as they should on the central locking system.

The second problem is the boot lock does not lock at all, not even by using the central locking!!!

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Hi Ive been reading the thread about central locking with great interest, Ive just bought an R reg 306 1,6 GLX 5 door (phase 2 model), and am very pleased with it so far, however when I purchased it it didn't come with a remote key fob just the standard spare key, this key works fine and seems to operate ok, I would like to try and get the remote side of it working and wondered if someone could tell me what type I need to buy i.e I/R or RF and do I need 1 or 2 buttons, thanks in advance for any help

Hi

my mum has just bought a P reg 306 xrdt.

it wasnt until we got home that we realised we have the same problem; the central locking tries, but fails, to stay locked. Also, when we tried to lock the car manually, with the key, the key didnt turn in the lock, and therefore obviously didnt lock the car.

i have tried to find the wiring under the back seats but either theyre not where everyone elses are or im looking in the wrong place entirely.

anyone got more detailed instructions for a novice like me?

any advice is appreciated!

Try looking just behind the driver's seat under the floor at the bottom of the door pillar. It's a pig to get at, you have to take the driver's seat out, but that's where mine was. Mine is S reg

while driving along the engine died, any one have any clues? there is a spark and there is fuel, taking a plug out and tuning the car over make a nice flame near the pot so i thought it might be the timing has slipped so does any one know where the timing marks are on a 1.6 8v 306 engine?`

also any one know how to reset the remote locking?
cheers pugm4n

Followed Solara's advice on our '96 306 and it worked perfectly. The colours were different, but Solara's wire numbers were the same.

Just to add to Solara's posting: when he say's run a wire between the two numbered wires, he means cut both of the numbered wires and join all 4 ends together.

Our central locking works a treat now. No more pesky auto unlock.

Thank You Solara!

Hi

I found the answer on here. I saw a few responses saying it did/didn't work, but I've just fixed my central locking for the cost of a scotchlock connector. £0.50p ! My box is under the seat behind the driver. Pull the bottom part of the seat up & lift up the carpet under the seat. You should be able to see 2 connectors, below the back part of the seat. If you want to remove the unit to connect wires together, there are 3 retaining screws under the carpet in the boot, right behing the rear o/s seat. Unscrew these & the central locking unit can be lowered/removed. You may not have seen the wires as the unit is almost hidden up in bodywork! Trust me, it's there.

I was told to connect one of three combinations of wires, but the first one worked! On the connector with the thinner wires, look for the green/yellow wire. It should have 'M623' written along it. Connect this with a scotchlock connector to wire 6293, which should be right next to it. In these forums it says 6293 is blue, but mine's red (amazingly the Haynes manual got the colour right!). Plug the connector back in, pop in the 15amp fuse & hey presto! Go by the wire numbers, not the colours.

I think it was one of the guys called John who suggested it here (along with Solaris). Thanks very much guys, you saved me a fortune in replacing looms/motors & the like.

Think I'll be a regular here now!!

Mike

asumeing you have the TU series engine the timing marks you will need an 8mm drill bit and a short 6mm drill bit right in the cam wheel you will see a 8mm hole line this with the hole in the head and insert drill bit. in the front of the gear box just below the crank sensor is a 6mm hole insert the 6mm dril bit in there and thats the cam and crank lined up. but for the car to just die i would first chek the crank sensor as they do breakdown.

My situation.

I have a 99 pug 306. The central locking works fine, but the remote locking does not work. A local garage has checked the key and it is sending a signal all ok. They seem to think it could be the recieving unit. I cant find it near the sunroof, am I looking in the right place?

Does anyone know the location of this unit?

Thank you
