My boxer bitch is expecting her first litter, we had her scan at the beginning of this month and the vet has seen at least 4 puppies :0) We are very excited and a little nervous as this will be our first litter. I have had all her screening checks done and chose a suitable stud. I have switched onto puppy kibble and have increased her food as advised. I am giving her two walks a day although have been advised not the let her jump or run too much. I have ordered her whelping box and whelping kit.... I am really looking for any advise that anyone may be able to give me about whelping and milk for the puppies during weaning. I have been searching locally for welpi milk as this is what my stud advised (they used this for their own litters) but I have not been able to find it, my local petshop had lactol milk and another which she recommended which seemed very cheap £8.00 for a kilo? I would just welcome any advise at all as I really want to do the best for my bitch and her puppies!
Soz havnt got any advice to give u but it sounds exciting! Got any pics of ur boxer to share!?
I am very excited!!!!!! Here is Mia the beautiful mom to be!!!
thankyou I think she is stunning (but i am obviously very biased) I am sorry about your boxer, they are such characters they leave a huge void when they are lost. I bet he has left you with lots of happy memories !! Take Care
I have read about using weetabix or porridge as a first weaning food... I believe this should be mixed with a milk such as welpi? Mia is due to go to the vets again at day 42 of her pregnancy so I can get her some worming medicaton, and will also speak to the vet about weaning.

We also had a scan which showed only 4 puppies, so be prepared for more! All I can say, is be there, be alert, get ready to tear open sacs, (we had to do 4) Get read up on still births and what to do (we had one, that had no heartbeat, and wasn't breathing but thanks to knowing what to do, we got him back, and you cannot tell which pup he is now, they are all the same size!) Keep lots of newspaper. If you haven't a whelping box, make sure you have a place that is just for your mum (bitch) Don't intervene if she goes to the pup soon as its born, she will tear the bag and do everything needed. If she hasn't gone for the puppy/sac in a minute or so, then tear the sac so the pup can breath. We tore a couple then moved the pup nearer to mums mouth and she took over. :) If you need advice, go to your vet who will usually give you a printout of loads of advice and guidelines. If in doubt during the whelping, call the vet!!! If you want to talk to me, email me, I am not an expert, but did help out my girl last week :)
Congratulations..... Well done reviving your boy So glad he is doing well... i have been reading a book "the complete book of dog breeding" which des have a section on "cpr" which I have not yet gotten to... can I ask if your bitch got picky over her food as I have been struggling to get Mia to eat properly the past few days? Can i ask if you had to cut any of the puppys cords or did mum do them? Thank you for your offer of emailing you.... Will do ;0) your litter look beautiful on the pic Well done!!!
