Hi, we're looking at changing our ageing back boiler gas fire for a woodburner with a back boiler to run the heating and possibly the hotwater if we can find one that runs both, any expereinces or suggestions, Thanks Ed

We have a really smart looking wood burner made by JOTUL its modern smooth look was what appealed to us it is even raised on a frame which leaves a very tidy space to store a small number of logs, in winter it is more than able to provide enough hot water and heat the room very well, we do not however have it to fire the central heating as the cost of re plumbing at the time was just so much more than we had to spend. My opinion is to go for it.

We've been and had a look round today, can get a multifuel stove that'll do hot water and six radiators for just under a £1000 but have to add plumbing it in etc on top of that, but given the cost of gas we'd save about £500 a year on our heating bills as I have a ready supply of logs

I lived in a sprawling 5 bed house which had a woodburner installed in a 30ft lounge but the oil burner which controlled the radiators wasn't really up to it. but when I lit the woodburner the difference was fantastic, So go for it and spares are readily available for these. A little tip invest in a log splitter and possibly a good chainsaw and on those days when you don't know what to do spend a couple of hours splitting logs and storing them to season. they burn a lot better and look good stacked up against a wall
