a lot of dog and cat flea powders will kill the Hedgehog. a safer option is to use Bird mite spray. this kills the fleas and is much safer.

Hi there, I have a pair of hedgehogs in my garden. they live under my shed, every night my dog comes in running aound as if to say " quick mum that prickly ball is moving around again" and i gt up and put the water out and hedgehog food,( i don't leave it out all the time cos i live by the sea and the seagulls are a problem) but one night my sister an I were up late waitning for our husbands to come home from london when we heard this horrible pig like sound. we crept around the house and when nearing the front door noticed it was much louder, I was about to open the door when reminded by my sister I had nothing on my feet, should the thing want to take flight across my toes, i then stood on the stairs and leaned across to open the door, on doing so I looked down to my Boot brush which was in the style of a hedgehog, Only to find to further Hedgehogs trying to get to know my boot brush a little better, if you get my drift, I did take a few pics as i was so shocked and I hadn't seen a Hedgehog that close before, well not one that was still breathing so I didn't know they made a noise either, but at least I now know why they are called Hedgehogs!

petpotty, soz if i sounded a bit, well sort of big for my boots, i was tired and hadn't properly read the message properly. thanks for the info bout flea powders though.i found good sized plastic boxes that i think i can turn into hedgehog houses, does anyone know if there's any problems with using plastic hedgehog houses if they are properly insulated and ventalated or should i only use wood houses?

ive built houses out of both wood and plastic. plastic does last longer of course :). a tunnel entrance on both is a good idea.

thanks, but what topic is the bit on hedgehogs under? but with the hedgehog house compared to the price of buying one, the price of the materials i can use to make one is way cheaper and our house is on a tighter buget than usual cos i just starting uni in september, so on a lower buget, so saving money on the houses means i can still help hedgehogs and save money.

thanks for the help, i'm sure i can turn one of those boxes into a hedgehog house now, and i'll improvise a roof too, if any hedgehogs use the house(s) i'll take pics if the hedgehogs don't notice. the ones we have in our garden all look really small compared to ones i've seen on tv, so i think they could be babies, does any one know how big adults are so i can see if they are just smaller than i think or know if the ones i've seen are babies?
