406 Coolant Problem
Messages 1 to 2 of 2.
I have a '97, 406 Executive (2.0l Petrol turbo) with 100k on the clock. I drive around 150 miles a week, mostly local roads, some motorway. Recently, the car has been getting through a full header tank of coolant about once a month, which seems like a lot to me. It's been suggested that this could be a head-gasket problem, which sounds expensive to me. Any help or suggestions?

your best bet would be to have a small independent garage do a pressure test on it that way they could assess where the water is going, they can also check for combustion/exhaust gases in the coolant or you could buy the testers yourself but its probably cheaper to let the garage do this and then report back with the findings. That way you won't be guessing and you will no how to play it from that point.
