hi bas saph

im a bit of a ford man, so ive owned a few including escort mk 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 orion mk 2, capri mk 2, 3, sierra mk 2 saph gls, azura hatch

but for me the best standard production car for possing on a limited bubget was one of these, 1989 orion 1600e in raven black

below is a picture of one, not mine tho, but here's a picture for all of the people who have never seen one, i think they were about £12,000 when new, i bought mine when it was about 7 years old, and cost £2,795 with an aledged 66,000 on the clock

I have to agree with Al about some of the fords being junk, even now the quality of some of the components leaves a lot to be desired.
I do think at times ford are resting on there popularity laurels a bit.
Dont get me wrong some of them are good to drive it's just when they go wrong the quality of the components can be pretty shocking.
Have to admit to liking the older generation fords though like the mk 1 & 2 granada, mk 2 &3 capri and mk 3,4 & 5 cortina's, yeah they rusted away to nothing but they were easy to work on and the engines were generally quite hardy.

hi bas saph
yeah the orion 1600e made 1988-89 i think it was a run-out model, i think it was almost the same spec as the 1600i ghia, but had leather seats, bbs alloys, mine had a genuine ford 3 legged spoiler, similar to the 2 legged one's on the normal 1600i ghia
i was told by the ford dealer i bought it from that they were made in only two colours, either raven black or mercury grey, but ive seen white ones in auto trader and on ebay, but weather they are a genuine 1600e i dont know, i did see a very nice one on ebay last summer, 2 owners, very low miles, used as a show car sort of thing, just a shame it was in scotland

The colours you mention Tommy are the ones I remember for the 1600E
Seem to remember the 2000E sierra only coming in met blue and some other colour as well.
Like the orion the 2000e had leather but also had aircon which was a bit of a novelty at the time.

I've always been a devout landrover man until last couple of years when extra travelling and need for economy mean I've erred and am now on my second escort van, my first landrover was a 1968 Series 2a with the rover 2.6 litre straight six cylinder engine in it, did 12 to the gallon on a good day and the engine on its own weighed 3/4 ton as it had a cast iron block! after various landys my current one although currently laid up with a poorly engine is a 1985 ninety hardtop, with a 3.0 litre ford v6 in it trust me this one proves landys can go fast lol

Sounds interesting I'd love to have an old land rover when Im older. Just to use as a tank for the idiots that cut you up. which normally intals stamping on ankers and swearving. In land roaver Id cover breaks and wollop then say odear look at the state of your car that was silly. pmsl v6 petrol sound good.
