I have a rover 416i that has similar sounding problems to some of the other posts on here, but this is my first car and i will have to take it to a garage to be repaired. the problem is very intermittent the car will tick over on idle at just below 1000 rpm then suddenly jump up to 1500 - 2000 rpm. on one occasion i was driving at 30 mph without my foot on the accelerator! recently i have been driving at 30 mph and it felt as if the car was cutting out and bump starting itself. I know very little about cars and like i said i will have to take it to a garage to be repaired but don't want to spend £100's of pounds fixing the car. any advice would be greatly appriciated
