subaru gearbox oil leaking onto exhaust

hi, i jsut bought a 1998 subaru impreza sport. it drives great but i noticed a oily burning smell coming from the engine when stoped in traffic. no smoke tho. but when i come home this morning smoke was coming out of the engone bay so i had a look. i thought it may have been rocker cover gasket but they are dry as a bone. the leak is actually coming directly above the join where the cat and manifold join which is the join to the gearbox. i have never had this problem b4 and dnt no if it is serious. i noticed a few drips this mornin from over night so it isnt to serious atm but if it is the gearbox on its way out then i no its gon to b expensive but if there is a possible gasket or summit that can b replaced that isnt so expensive.

anyone got any ideas
