Hi got a ford focus 1.8 zetec 35,000 miles on clock, and a 2002 plate, bottom pulley broken causing considerable damage to the engine and costly repair bill. just wondered if anyone else had had this problem.

not heard of this problem b4 on this engine. they are usually very good. do you know exactly whats happend to the pulley? maybe someone has worked on the engine and damaged / disturbed it at some point. The bottom pulleys are very strong, carnt see how it could have broken. you could be just a bit unlucky. I had a ford focus with a fautly internal component which caused engine failure which no one had ever had before, kinda put me off fords after that happend!

Hi, car only done 34.500 miles, aa said bottom pulley just broke up. its damaged all valves ,and cylinder head. costly repair £800 to £1000 . and we were only just pulling out of an opening, not even on the main road. its put us off fords too. back to foreign car now.

hi pat. im still really baffled by your engine failure, i really carnt see how the bottom pulley could have broken up. sounds very odd. i never trust what the aa say anyways , they always seem to guess things and most times are never right from my experience. have you taken it to a garage? i take it they have stripped it down and told you whats happend? as it might just need the valves replacing, £1000 sounds a bit expensive, i would have thought its worth repairing at such a low mileage and to find out what exactly has happend to cause this problem., get a proper qoute, you might find its a lot cheaper than you think.
