hi i have just had a couple of new additions to my family thanx to preloved...ash and maya...they ar gorgeous as u will see from the next few pics..if anyone has some useful tips or advice feel free as it will be appreciated as was the help and advice i was given with my ferrets.x

and this is them huddled up in a temp house to make them feel cosy till they ar big enough for the other one..bit dark as didnt want to startle them with the flash

btw did i even mention how incredibly gorgeous they are? or was i too wrapped up in hating my mum and wanting a rat LOL?

Hi, I had lots of rats, 30 plus, years ago! I love them. They are fun, trainable, and clean, contrary to popular belief. I had one, you could take him to the bottom of the garden, and race him back to the back door! quite a feat for such a little guy, RIP Benson. They are escape artists, one of mine Horace, disappeared for weeks, he went to visit his cousins, the wild rats, came back full of fleas and a bit skinny, but he came back. Benson would sit on my shoulder for hours and loved a cup of tea in a swallow saucer! They love to nest, so included lots of bedding in your rat house - nowadays there are fancy rat houses, but mine just had big old fish tanks, much easier to clean. Enjoy your rats, they only live for a few years, and most succumb to cancer - at least mine did. Benson did suffer with bad sinuess' (think thats spelt wrong), unfortunately my vet at the time hated all rodents and would diagnose him from the other side of the room! But it was funny! I was horrified to see the price of rats in the pet shop, my first two Benson and Hedges, were so called because they cost less than a packet of the same, back in the days when a fiver would buy two packets!

Hi what georgeous rats your very lucky.
Make sure you never give them sawdust woodshavings etc as its bad for them because of all the dust. Wood litter pellets or safe bedding is best as they suffer from respitory infections and can get it quite easily and cancer too as i found out from 3 rats i had, two got respitory infections even thou i took them to the vets and were on medicine they passed away when they were 1year and 6 months old one of the other rats i adopted ended up having cancer and died 1 month after i got her aged around 1year and a few months. Rats make the most fantastic pets ever i still have 2 at the moment reggie & Ruben only problem i have had with one of the is an abscece but with treatment has gone no other problems. Hope this helps..

arr u poor thing kitty..roll on havein ur own place then lol..gald u all like my new babies and sorry to hear about the losses..i do no about the wood shaving etc ...as i have 2 mice to and its the same for them but thanx for mentionin it ..maya an ash ar only 7 weeks so i hope to have some fun an games for a long time yet..x

deggs was it you who had baby mice and i wanted some?? lol.. i think it was anyways just incase i wanted to tell ya i got 2 baby mice today i got one for me n one for my sis. have called mine nikkita shes a chocolate and white and my sis has called hers mika shes a black n white we calle them mikki n nikki for short lol) the petshop said their a little under 7 weeks old they are mega tiny... glad your rats are doing good heres to a long and happy life :-)
whats that about wood shavings? i have 2 hamsters who i have always used shavings for and the petshop use shavings in their tanks ive had mice and i use shavings too and now im using shavings for these girls ... what is wrong with the shavings? is there something else i should be using?

Hamsters are fine to use wood shavings i dont no about mice never had them, mum has a fear of them no mater how many times i ask she still wont let me have any:(..........

yeh im on a mouse forum and it seems everyone there uses wood shavings??
lol sorry shelly my mum is the same but with rats im not allowed any lol took me a long time to convinve her mice were a good idea i did get her to hold one once but whenever i offer her now she goes go on then but before i get in the room shes like arhh no take it away lol... i wanna build a massive play area for them and add a couple more but i dont have the space to build it big enough for more at the moment. maybe one day soon though

My mum wern't keen on me getting rats to start with but she loves them now thinks the world of em past and present ones, she just has this strange thing about mice i think she has a fobia, she kinda associates them with wild mice which are completely different. But she can't see that. she loves animal but mice are a big no no and gerbils we had 2 when i was younger ended up being 12 and when the cable man came they had escaped and he thought they were mice lol no more after that.

hehe my mum calls gerbils... desert rats she calls them that because she said no rats lol... she has a phobia too i think but yeh she agreed to mice coz theyre small and she always says theyre cute just scared of them lol

haha my mum says that too (that they will escape) i had one escape and found her 3 weeks later lol she survived on hamster food in storage and the dogs water haha
but yeh since then i dont use cages i use tanks for the mice.. hoping to upgrade to a much bigger tank and get them some friends...maybe in a few months or something

Awww! Rats are definately my weak spot! Look at those gorgeous faces :D I've owned loads of rats and have loads of brill memories with all of them! Hope you have plenty of lovely ones to come with your two!

hi ive been a resucer for rats for 18yrs and would like you to feel free to ask me any quetions ive resuced hundreds and my logest to live was a silver back called billy he was 3 years and 4 mth when he passed last year also i love the pics of your rottie it made me cry as my trudy only passed away 3 week ago 22/12/97 to 16/08/2008 what gentel loyal soft dogs despite what ignorant people say about the thanks,,,,maxine
