....don't really live anywhere all that close to a rehoming centre - dog, cat - nothing! So, I thought I might set one up myself.
I'm only able to offer a home to small furry creatures.
Mice Hamsters Rats Gerbils Hedgehogs Chipmunks
Unfortunately this list has to disclude rabbits, guineapigs, chinchillas, degus and ferrets as I wouldn't be able to provide appropriate housing and sufficient care as I would like
So I'm offering my home to small furry creatures in need of a loving home in a knowledgeable environment.
I will be getting hold of equiptment to support this rescue.
Please contact me on my email: [Log in to view email] if you live near and wish to rehome your small furry friend.
I will also soon be setting up a small furry friend boarding hotel but I'll let you know more about that once I've worked out the business plan for it!

i think its great your gonna do that but on another thread you said you cant do bunnies ect because you dont have space. please be aware that chipmunks take up ALOT of space....good luck with it all i think an animal rescue is a great idea. i rescued one of my hamsters (ricco) he only has 3 legs and is almost 3years old so on his way out but still full of fun just turning into a grumpy old man lol still love him all the same though

Well done to you hope everything goes ok for you!
You know they should do a thing like Animals in need and then they could give a bit of help to others just like they do for children in need i mean look at the respons they get with that well they should use there head and do that!.....I want to be remembered for this idea..lol

Well, the idea is that I'm going to set up a 'hotel' side and a 'rehoming' so that hopefully I'm atleast breaking even. It will literally be an even divide from one side of my bedroom to the other. I've already had quite a bit of interest in the hotel side of things but it's just a case of finding suitable tanks/cages etc for the rehoming so that I can get started.
Thankyou Kitty. I know chimpunks need alot of space since I used to look after my friends cause she didn't really have a clue and at the time I couldn't keep them in my room since it was too small and I couldn't keep them outside since my cats (which I don't have anymore) would have been a nuisance with them, but I've worked out a way I can get around this size issue that doesn't compromise on floor space for hammies and rat sized fluffballs! :D
I know what I'm doing in terms of care for the animals listed, but I'm just wondering if it might be a good idea to do a small animal first aid course or something so that people know they can rely on me? What do you recon?

talk to your vet allso look on the internet and stock up your first aid kit because somtimes you cant get to the vet until the morning allso a good source of advice is breeders of the animals you are wanting to look after because the good ones will not mind you picking their brains for tried and tested remedys to simple things that can crop up for example bloat in rabbits i spent over a hundred pounds trying to save 1 (which didnt work ) but months later met another breeder who had suffered bloat in her rabbits and found out how to cure it not totaly but her survival rates are very good wish i knew sooner but better late than never

There used to be a place in chester that had cats & dogs but thats going back about 10 years ago. I popped there looking for a cat but it looked a bit dirty so i turned round and drove back home. Pity about you not being able to rehome rabbits, guinea pigs etc though as alot of people get rid of them. Perhaps the animals that you rehome you could find them forever homes like they do in rescue centres therefore giving you more space for more. If i had the space i'd of done what your planning on doing as i am at home all day and am unable to work due to my consultant saying so. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Ask the vets about first aid courses? Would a regular first aid kit be ok and what sort of place would I purchase one from?
Well I also have two Springer Spaniels so one sniff of a rabbit and the poor creature won't need a home the other reason why I can't take them in, guineapigs are off this list since they are big enough to attract interest too and it's really not as simple as putting a lock on the door wood is no barrier! The rescue side AND hotel will be taking place in the space of my bedroom don't forget so I'd love to take in rabbits but it's totally unrealistic. I've measured and moved things about so that I can fit so many of certain sized cages suitable for a variety of animals so it's all planned out, I've even mapped out places under my bed incase it's that bad! I will plan to keep all the ones that come to me in need of a new home, and I've even got a plan if I end up taking in hedgehogs as my bedroom leads off to the attic and it seems perfect :P

i am very lucky 1 of my best friends used to work at 1 of the main animal sanctuarys and there is allways somone to ask if i am unsure i have more of a first aid suitcase rather than a kit but then i have had a few giants in recently had a guinea pig in with its foot half severed and a chunk missing out of its neck it was brought in like that through a rabbit related accident did the best i could but it died before we could get it to the vet . we had a baby hedghog once but rang the local wildlife rescue as we kept it in a dog grate with a hide over night when we came down in the morning we nearly passed out from the smell lovely little critters but boy what a whiff lol aint nature great

Well I've actually made a floor plan of my room - one side being hotel and the other rescue but I don't underestimate the importance of hygiene so thats all in the plan aswell for example, inbetweeen every animal thats cleaned out or handled the equiptment is sterilised and gloves are worn with hedgehogs because they can carry alot of parasites on their skin like mange. But I can see what the impression from people reading this forum message might be picturing in their minds, but I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise such a good thing!
