My 1998 406 has recently been over revving and surging while driving thus causing usually the engine management light to come on, When you are driving you can feel the engine revving up and surging itself.
Does anybody have any idea what the causes could be.

Has it been over filled with engine oil???

The oil level has been same for number of weeks and car has been running fine.
Does this problem relate to a faulty fuel pump that is what my local garage told me the diagnostic error was no 1&2 rotor sensor fault.
