Mariner 25hp gearbox problem

Hi, I am new to boatingand have just bought a 2nd hand inflatable and Mariner 25hp outboard. First time out I noticed the clutch appeared to slip once the speed got up. Is this going to be a big job? I have knowledge of bikes and cars but nothing to do with outboards.
Any advice gratefully received.
