Hi there can any one help me? i have a 1999 vectra 1.8 it starts then immediately stops,fault code says cam position sensor wrong signal,i have fitted a new cam sensor but still the same ,thought ecu fault so fitted another have had all codes cleared etc. but still the same fault,I've also checked the wiring for possible shorts or breaks,all OK,i can get the car to idle very nicely but not rev by shorting the feed and signal wires on the cam sensor,i am now at the end of my Patience with it,can anyone shed any more light on this problem? by the way fuel pump,fuel pressure,crank sensor,throttle body all checked or replaced but to no avail.

You sound like you know what your doing but have you checked the actual cam pulley for damage.
This code is saying wrong signal rather than no signal so my first thing to try at this stage would be to check the signal on a scope from the cam sensor to see if it actually is giving out a valid signal.
I also seem to remember that you have to change the electrical plug on some of them to fit a new sensor however your one maybe new enough to be ok.

Hi there thanks for the advice but the cam wheel is fine and the new sensor was a direct fit.i am at the moment waiting for some one to get back to me about checking the signal from the sensor with a scope.

By the way you're right there is no replacement for displacement but i find my 368ci cadillac a little thirsty!
