Hi there, I'm 38 and have been trying for a baby for 7 months now (no surprise it's taking so long with my ancient eggs I suppose) and I have just ordered myself a Clearblue Fertility Monitor. I was just wondering if anyone here has experience of them, good or bad. I was hoping really that it will be a realistic indicator that I am actually ovulating (I'm worried I might not be as my periods are not particularly regular) rather than as an out and out guarantee of conceiving. Any inspirational tales or tips for falling pregnant in your old age gratefully received too!

Hi, i thought the same thing when i bought some ovulation test strips from a well known internet auction site. I ended up ordering my partner to bed when the time was right! Ha ha! Anyway they worked and we conceived first month so good luck for you too. It definately helps to know if and when your are about to ovulate.

Hi Gemma, thanks for your response. Wow - one month - congratulations!!!! Was that in total or since you used the strips (sorry - you can tell me to mind my own business:-)) I'm well past the first month of trying but it would be great if it only took another month to conceive!

Hi, thanks! Well i fell pregnant several months before but miscarried. So we waited a while and then i used the strips straight away and it happened, they tell you when you are about to ovulate and say its best to try (if you get my meaning!) within the next 36 hours because as soon as you ovulate you are only fertile for another 12 hours i think. It's been a while (i am 22 weeks pregnant now and my brain has shrunk !) but you'd better check the instructions as i might be mistaken. I was utterly surprised i can tell you! If you ask me the strips are the answer as all my friends used them too and got pregnant within 3 months. I personally found it better not to tell my partner when it was "time" to do the deed so he didn't find it too mechanical (you know how sensitive men are!) so he just thought his luck was in!

Hi Gemma,
I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, but it's great news that you are now 22 weeks pregnant. You must be soooo excited! My monitor turned up this morning but I can't start using it until the first day of my next period (whenever that may be!). I've been reading the booklet and trying to get my head round it - I'm sure I'll get it all wrong! I'm doing a fair bit of travelling over the next month so must remember to take it with me everywhere I go. I know what you mean about keeping "it" spontaneous, or at least the illusion of spontaneity, wouldn't want my husband to think I'm only interested in him for one thing!
