The engine breather on the wifes S reg 1.8 petrol vectra has started leaking oil which drips down on to the exhaust manifold and stinks the car out, got worse the other day after the end of the breather fell out completely, luckily I found it on the drive and taped it back on, but it still weeps a bit of oil past the end, is this likely to be caused by pressure somewhere in the engine or is it a simple case of the breather needing replacing, any thoughts appreciated, Cheers Ed

You need to get a new breather and have the engine checked for breathing problems which are unlikely on that car.

the breather at the front right of the engine you mean?
if so you can get a modification to fit here--a black box with a filter inside--
fit this and also clean the throttle body, inc. the tiny hole where the smaller pipe fits at the right side, and maybe clean the idle air control valve out too.
they suffer with carbon build up in this small jet and valve, which over time can cause the engine to cut out when pulling up/idling.

Thanks for that, have fitted a new breather same as was there, it does seem to be running better but just occasionally plays up a bit at idles so I'll clean the bits you suggest and see if that helps, cheers Ed
