Just got an Esterel Folding Caravan and it has an ALKO AKS1300 stabiliser fitted. Does anyone have a handbook for one or at least can you tell me what the control 'dial' does. If you turn it in the direction of on it gradually tightens up and if you turn it the other way it slackens, but not entirely sure what it's purpose is

The dial tightens the anti skate pads onto the towball,
Now i havent fitted these units for a couple of yrs as they are only £15 cheaper than the the aks 3004 so we just about stopped stocking them & only fit the 3004.
But as far as i remember u drop the van onto the tow ball, then turn the dial until it clicks, then push the arm down fully to lock onto the towball, u must stop turning the dial as soon as it clicks or u risk overtightening it which will break it.

Ok thanks for that. I'll give that a try next time I need to hook up.

I agree with Keith, that's about as I remember it, they jam on if you over tighten them.

What I would add is all the Alko stabilisers need special towballs with extra clearance for the bigger head.
Also the ball itself should be kept clean and totally free of grease, a can of spray brake cleaner and rag is ideal for the grease and one of those soft sanding pads for what's left

Just 1 thing that came into my head, does your esterel hitch head rotate 360 degrees as my 1986 model did, if it does then its not suitable for an antisnake head of any make, as the maximum tilt on them has to be no more than about 24 degrees either side of upright.
