Peugeot 206 cat pipe replacement engine warning light

I was advised on my MOT my cat pipe was slightly degraded, two months doen the line it sheared off my car, I have had this replaced and now the engine shows the warning light and vibrates underneath as never before and genrally cuts the engine out, would a cat pipe replacement be the cause of this engine shut down as no previous history prior to this work being carried out.
