hi all i have a xantia 1.8 16v xreg 2 weeks now nice motor but found cluch heavy and squeeky when depressed decided to check and fill gearbox ,do this with 1.8ltrs gear oil via a nut with what looks like a breether point on it on the top of gearbox is this the right place or have i ballsed up .also with 55,000 on clock should i get timing belt done if so whats the going rate ,any help much appreiciated

i have a picasso the filling /level point is behind the drivers side wheel there is a plastic cover to remove

cheers ive filled a point to the right and down of the engine ,plastic nut on ,do u think this is may be the clutch filler and not the gearbox ta.....pal

Hi pal
You should have the BE3 gearbox.The filler is the largest bolt securing the end cover.
The cost of a timing belt is about £20 plus 3 hrs labour. When renewing
the belt it is also worth changing the water pump while it is easily accessible.

thanks 4 the info jpt ,looks like ive put gear oil in wrong place ,runs fine at the moment ,but am now waiting 4 a big bang.....pal
