Sierra 1.8 running problems

when travelling for about 5 mins the car will start missfiring and will eventually come to a hault. after a couple of mins it will restart then carry on for another five mins. i have checked the breather system and the alternator but these are ok. any ideas???

After much investigation, it turned out to be an intermittant electrical connection in the ignition wiring - the wire between the points and the coil if I remember right. Someone had used one of those nasty blue 'fold over' connectors that people often use to fit trailer electrics. I guess it's not _that_ likely that you've got the same problem, but it might be worth checking all the electrical connections. Run the engine then pull all the wiring about in the engine bay - see if you can reproduce the misfire. Ian

I blew an airline down the main pipe from the tank to the fuel pump and blew the little gause filter in the pipe into the tank. fingers crossed no problems mid you i have fitter an inline fuel filter I have also replaced the push rod on the end of the mechanical fuel pump as well as i heard this caused problems too.
