Hi,

2 questions, but might be related

1 - I have a W reg 2 litre Xantia Diesel estate that has suddenly started to use a lot of fuel and there is no sign of any leaks anywhere.

BUT - i have also recently moved and I use the car once every day to post items round the post office and as it is only a mile away,it's a cold short journey. (I could walk, but we are normally rushing to get all the post out and always run out of time :-).

Once a week i drive about 3 miles to Asda for food

2 - I have also noticed that the dipstick has usually popped out if its hole about 1/2", but there is no oil around the area, but i know it is indicative of a pressurised crankcase.

The car runs like a dream with plenty of power, but you can almost watch the fuel gauge move.

I am going to check the air filter tomorrow, but is there anything else that can block, which would cause high fuel consumption?

Is there a breather box or something that could be blocked and causing the dipstick dance?

Would the two problems be linked in any way?

Sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance.

Paul

I would tend to agree with you about the dipstick problem as regards a possibly blocked breather.
There may be a fault with the cold start keeping it on an eriched mixture too long.

Thanks for that.

I will find out where the breather is.

I take it finding out and repairing the cold start is a specialist job ?:-(
