Hi
My beloved 1987 rascal pick-up has had a major failure. It just stopped running. I have stripped down the front of the engine and the cam belt has chewed up where it went round the crankshaft cog. The camshaft will not turn, it seems to have seized? Is this the end for rosie the rascal or can it be repaired simply? If I remove the camshaft and refit it, is there any bearings to be changed? what could have caused the failure in the first place? oil pump? Anyone who has overcome this problem please let me know the best way forward. Thanks

I think theres a bit more too it than that I'm afraid, the cam belt has probably been very worn and slipped, the valves will probably have touched the piston and bent, that is why the cam wont turn, you will have to take the head off and see what damage has been done, if your lucky it will only be a valve or two, if your unlucky it will have damaged a piston, if its the latter of the two then a second hand engine would be much cheaper.
