I love reading too, am currently working my way through the Torey Hayden books - she works with kids with speech and emotional problems and her stories are very interesting (although can be tough to read them at times.) She is a very good writer, although no one else seems to have heard of her!

my favourite book is good omens by terry pratchett and neil gaiman. its just so very funny! i've read it that many times now i can quote it page by page ! (so sad!)
i have quite a wide variety of books on my shelves, i have alot of books on witchcraft and magic, also the paranormal etc. i find books on serial killers and crime really interesting and have a pretty good collection of those too! i enjoy books on history, my husband says i'm an information junkie! i guess i am .lol. i'm not a fan of love stories (sorry dan!) although when my mum was alive she loved them and after having a look at some of the mills and boon in her collection, i have to say they are more soft porn than romance! VERY naughty!
i like a good horror story, preferably gory not creepy but i do give creepy a chance if i have nothing else to read. i like shaun hutson cos he is pretty bloodthursty! and i llike james herbert and clive barker because they usually write a good story :-)
probably the saddest books in my collection are my school stories! i have a really soft for those school stories that take place in the very english boarding schools where the plain shy girl becomes the most popular girl in the school and they have midnight feasts with ginger ale and boiled sweets !

Janine wow!! i cry through them all too - some are terrible stories, but the amazing bravery etc by the kids and the adults who have to deal with them is astounding. Im working my way through Just another kid at the moment. Im really interested in psychology and stuff like that and after looking after kids affected by similar things i found the books really helpful with coping strategies!
NW, i have the serial killer obsession too..part of my psychology thing, i think. Hubby says im one in training..!! lol I also have the magick books and local folklore etc. I have a few on real life crime psychologists too but i've not read them yet, and one written by our local coroner. I bought it coz it recorded the investigation into the murder of my beloved school teacher. :-( His job is still interesting though.
God i sound morbid!

morbid! nah!! lol
years ago my hubby was a bad boy and his 'head doctor' was paul britton! he likes books on crime etc and is working his way through the books on the hells angels, he was in the ratae outcasts many years ago and so knows some of the people the books talk about. it makes him laugh when he reads about an event he was present at and the 'facts' in the book are wrong!

ooh wot a dodgy geezer!! lol Am sure hes luvverly now..!! :-) lol
I havent read about the hells angels yet, im sure a book will pop up sooner or later, as they do if you are meant to read 'em! Spose the auther has to go on the information given to them and its all gota be legal and everything too which must tie them a little bit. I often wonder how much they WANT to write which isnt put into these books? lol

funny thing is, its sometimes the illegal stuff they put in that they say happened that didnt! i think its like anything, they like to sensationalise everything dont they? its far more interesting to read that 20 guys with guns raided a clubhouse but not so interesting to find out it was 6 guys without guns who scarpered when the 'enemy' started shooting at them! poetic licence i guess lol

i think if you are going to read the bible (i have) you should take it for what it is, a work of fiction but some really good stories, its full of sex and violence!

I first got hooked on books when I received a handful of Enid Blyton books as a Christmas gift when I was a child. I loved the famous five books. I have lots of favourite adult books but I would say IT got me hooked on Stephen King, by far my fave author. I love a bit of fantasy, takes you away from reality for a little while and sometimes gets you thinking of other possibilities....

I read a great book recently, 'The Traveller' by John Twelve Hawkes which was a great read. About an alternative reality where the population is secretly controlled by an organisation by use of technology such as CCTV and tagging. The enemy being the travellers who have the ability to travel to other worlds and are a threat to the order and control.

Hello

First time for me on this forum - but saw Torey's name and had to respond - I absolutely love this author - having worked with children in care homes in the past I can relate to a lot of her books and she writes it like it is - her writing brings tears down my cheeks and several pages later I am in stitches laughing - havent read anything of Torey's for a while though - tell me what is the book you are reading? never know I may have read it or have it on the shelf awaiting to be read.
