I read somewhere about some special stuff for removing scratches from plastic windows, but maybe this is the stuff you have used without success. There is a compny in Halifax who repair and make new windows for caravans, it might be worth asking them if they can help solve your problem, I hear that they are very good...They go under the unusual name of the Exhaust Ejector Company and their website is http://www.eeco-ltd.com
Hope this helps

Hi Freddie
Don't despare and don't go paying out for a new window, all you need is T-cut. I have used it on all my Hobby windows and it does a fantastic job of removing scratches even relativley deep ones.
For a full window I used it on an orbital polisher but for small areas just use it on a soft cloth and the scratch will disappear.

Hi, I need a front window and the side widow to the left of the door for my 1998 Hobby 650umfe. I tried EE... whatever but it would be very expensive to send my old windows from Northern Ireland and then have the new ones sent back. I just want some decent ones from a breaker. Can anyone help.
Also is there any way of finding out the value of a preloved Hobby, some friends want to buy ours but I can't find out how much it's worth.
Thanks
RogerP

Hi people,
I have just bought a 2004 Hobby Exclusive 700 SMF UK Special.
We plan to take it to Europe for three months of the year, every year & then store it in Norwich.I have just found out about the size, and we only have a 4+4.I am now thinking of leaving it on site in Europe for nine months & not bring it back at all.Does anyone have any advise on storage & insurance in Europe.

Regards,
Mac.

I have just telephoned Tayside Police and they say the same. The max width is 2.9M so a width of 2.5 is ok.

Hi,

Thought I would mention that coming back from Wales at the weekend with the Hobby 560 on Excelsior on the back of my commercial van, I stopped off at a service station for petrol.

A 4x4 followed me in and parked at one of the pumps that was out of use, went into the Petrol station and looked through the mags. On payment of my fuel the guy attempted to make conversation with me (Irish Accent) and was interested to know if I wanted to sell my caravan.

I had been thinking of gonig into the main service area but the fear of having my second Hobby stollen soon changed those plans.

I guess my point is that this is the time of year the theifs are about looking to maximise the spring business opportunity!!!

Good luck and lock those caravans down.

Regards
Graham

Kerry,

I went through this 2.3 or 2.5 mtr wide problem in 2005. I contacted the local traffic police who confirmed it is only legal to tow 2.3 mtr wide UNLESS the towing vehicle is over 3,001 kg, no 4x4 is rated at that so it is illegal tow anything over 2.3.

I even placed the question with my local M.P as it is perfectly legal to tow in europe, my reply on headed House of Commons notepaper stated
" It is legal to in the EU member states to tow a vehicle over 2.3 mtr wide with a vehicle less than 3,001kg plated weight, but the issue had been debated in parliament and the government had decided not to adopt that rule here in britain. The 2.3 mtr rule applies in the UK and any european towing in this country over 2.3 mtr wide will be issued with a fixed penalty notice" Believe me the policeman you spoke to was wrong, you will be prosecuted, also when stopped you will not be allowed to tow any further you will have to pay to have the caravan towed away and you could face being reported for having no insurance for towing as it is an illegal act.I had to settle for 2.3 mtr wide 540 instead of the 2.5 mtr wide 560.

Phil..............

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the information. Perhaps I should just play safe and try and get a 540 like you. I dont want to take any chances. I only have a 2 litre (Diesel) Freelander and it wont be heavy enough to pull the others anyway!! Thanks again.

Kerry,

It's a tough decision to make but at the moment there is no sign of change for this rule. If this was going to be site based you could probably get someone with a commercial van to help ir hire one for the first move. If your looking to use it for touring I guess the concerns over insurance and legal complience make the decision for you.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy whatever you go for.

It will take enough of us to get caught first and make an issue out of it before the government will do something about it. That is the problem. i am going to put up another discussion to see how many people will be will actually be willing to help if i take this further in order to get the law changed. Please put your name forward the more the better. Vicki

The trouble with getting caught and complaigning is that we look like criminals who don't like paying our dues and as a result have zero inpact.

I don't understand why we have gone a different route in the UK but given we drive on the other side, our roads are often narrower and there is a major push for road safety at the moment, I can't see how something that might be seen to compromise safety would move forward.

Happy to support you if you can get any movement.
