The Gross Vehicle Weight or Maximum Authorised Mass of the towing vehicle must exceed 3500kgs. The Disco is well below this and therefore not legal. Hobby's upto and including the 540 model are ok for a "normal" vehicle, but model 560 and above must must be towed with a vehicle with a GVW ( MAM ) in excess of 3500kgs Chris Bennet Hobbynut
P.S you could have a look at extensive coverage of this topic on http://www.thecaravanownersclub.co.uk Its the Hobby Owners Club site, it costs for full membership but they will let you on for a couple of weeks free of charge

Hi! Can anyone explain the 12S connections on a 1994 Prestige. The cable from the plug on the van is 3 core standard electrical i.e brown , blue and green and yellow. A battery has been fitted to the van so which wires control fridge and which the power supply? Is the green/yellow wir a common earth or something else. Thanks for any help. Jack

Hi there I was having a problem getting my Hobby 540UK serviced in Scotland, no caravan dealer would entertain a German van (jealousy??) So I had to go back to the place were I bought it JD Trading in Eastriggs in Scotland. A bit of a treck getting it down, but left it for a week to give mark and Dougie a chance to have a good look at it.Picked up the van and took it to Arrochar in Argle and bute for the weekend the next week and found that the guys had done a first class job, everything was check and a work sheet to say what they had done along with thier stamp on the log book etc. They even took the time to paint over a few scratches which were on the outside of the van and fill in a small hole on the dinning room table. I have never seen this attention to detail before on any thing I have had serviced before without having to pay extra. So well done guys, its good to see that there are still people out there who take pride in thier work. By the way service cost £124 Cheers Gordon

I have just found a way to tow the big hobbys without having to buy a large van or wagon.
Apparently the utility companies use 110 (long wheelbase) Landrovers that are rated at 4.5 tonnes. this means you could still get in carparks and look respectable when you go out in it. Just trying to find out more.
I do know it will have a tacho but you dont need to use it for private use.
If it is bought through a company does the co. need an o licence? Does the tacho only need using if on co. bussiness? any one else has any knowledge or ideas pass them on.
