In October 2005 I ordered a hobby 540WLU from a hobby dealer,

I am still waiting for the van to arrive, I have been told that there is a huge problem in the factory in Germany, has anybody else heard or had problems with new hobbys????

Hello Phil,

Which dealer did you place your order with - was it in the UK or on the Continent? Do you have a delivery date on your order form?

I have a couple of colleagues who ordered December 2005 for delivery in April 2006. Both were delivered on time, including the 'self-contained' package and powerdrive movers.

Regards.

Peter

Hello Phil,

Sorry you have met up with a problem.

Ambergate Caravans, Ambergate, Derbyshire are the original, official HOBBY UK suppliers and their delivery dates are normally very accurate.

Your order was for a 2007 model that should have come off the production line a week or so before you were due to take delivery.

Without anything in writing, you have a problem regarding delivery. Have you paid a deposit on your order? If you have, you should write to the supplier pointing out the non-delivery during the time period verbally agreed. You should then go on to say that time is now the limiting fact on your order. If delivery is not completed within four weeks then your order should be cancelled and all deposits refunded.

There are suppliers in Germany with plenty of HOBBY stock and you should be able to take delivery of your selected model by going and collecting it. It would also save you money! It would also give you a short holiday.

Agreed, you wouldn't have any factory fitted extras on the basic model but that can easily be overcome.

Let us know more of your problem if appropriate - it might save others in the future.

Good luck.

Peter

Although Ambergate caravans are the official dealer, the largest Hobby dealer in Europe is JG Trading at Eastriggs, near Annan, Dumfries.
Give them a try.

You should have no problems - just make sure it conforms to the UK width regulations.
If you change your mind about going overseas, I am selling a 2003 UK - legal 540UL. See previous pages classified ad

We found that the Co-op were very pleased and helpful in insuring my daughter's Hobby caravan.

Can anybody please advise me of the chassis manufacturer for the Hobby 540 UL caravan and also whether anybody has ever fitted an underslung chassis mounted spare wheel carrier to a hobby single axle caravan?

The chassis is made by BPW and the Alko underfloor spare wheel carrier will fit as there are holes to the same dimensions as an ALKO chassis. Why would you want an underfloor carrier? Hobby do a bracket to mount the spare wheel in the front locker and there is ample capacity on the nose load to accommodate this even with two gas bottles and the usual "junk". In fact, it is easy to make your own bracket. I can give dimensions and details if you are handy at DIY.

Hi Keith
I have fitted an underslung spare to my 540 UF just behind the wheels. My only complaint was with the grommets supplied with the rack, which disintigrated very quickly.

Cheers

beejay,

Thankyou for your prompt response. I haven't yet taken delivery of the new caravan, therefore, I was undertaking research as a contingency just incase its nose weight exceeded my cars 85 kgs limit. Any dimensions you have would be welcome [Log in to view email]

Hello Paul.
Look at the Hub Lock (http://www.jsbhublock.co.uk) its the only device that cant be cut off with oxyacetylene, and is designed to stop the professional thieves.
Some trackers are good but cost £400 to £500 per year and can't stop your caravan being stolen (helps recovery) and extra £100 per year.
