I have recently been made redundant and have been scouring the internet for a new job. I have three children so was thinking how nice it would be to work from home, however everything I have seen so far seems a con and most people want you to shell out money for 'information'. So.... Does anyone actually work from home in a real job and earn real money??? I am intrieged!!

You could sell your unwanted items on E Bay. I did this a few years ago and made a reasonable amount each week. Trouble is it is very time consuming, photographing, listing and packaging the items. There are magazines in the bookshops that give ideas about what sells on E Bay - you could buy new items wholesale and sell them. If you stuck with one or two products that would make it easier as you could photograph them once and the listing would be the same. Or have you thought about becoming a childminder? At £25 a day per child this is a good way to earn money and stay at home with your own children. I believe there are grants available to help with initial outlay of equipment. What about taking in ironing? Lots of working parents would use this service (I do as I hate ironing!!!!!) If you have secretarial skills you could advertise in your local paper and small businesses may use you to type up their invoices and business letters. There are lots of opportunities but don't be taken in by scams, look in your local library or bookshop for books about working from home and I am sure you will find something.

Hiya I have a 4 month old daughter who is fab and I wanted to work from home after she was born. I piled through soooo many jobs but none accualy made any money! I've decided to open my own buissness in a few years when I can afford it and have made up all the plans. Your kids will only ever be young once is how I see it. If its really importent to spend more time with them why not try some self employed work since you get to choose the hours? By the way I do know how tirying and hard being self employed is => x x xx

Hi, I've never found any success from work from home ads I've seen so have started to take in other peoples ironing as my son is 18 mths old and we need the money. I'm also thinking about managing peoples website content. I hope that you have found something now though. Have you thought about childminding or perhaps Avon (my mum in law used to do this before she got ill).Gillian

Some years ago I used to do a work at home job it was hard work and i spent a lot of the £1.30 an hour on plasters for my poor sore fingers it left me with. Sometimes i would have worked dropped off at 5pm and they would want to collect at 7am next morning so would have to sit all evening working and sometimes into the early hours if it was a difficult job. I was paid by each 1000 I did and if it took more than hour to that 1000 the hourly rate could be as low as 65p.

hi, i used to to work in a factory before having my daughter 2 years ago and there was a lot of work, so the boss made boxes of work up and advertised it for people to do as 'home work', she paid the minimum wage and gave a deadline for when the work had to be done, it was just doing things such as packaging, really easy stuff although there would be loads of it so i think the only thing to do is maybe ask some factorys...but doubt would get very far now though as there hardly any work as there at the moment ?

Hi NickiI was the same as you until recently when looking for a business from home. Not sure if your still looking around but i recently found a home business that has not only began to change my life, also generate a considerable income. If you were looking for a get rich quick scheme', this definately isnt for you. This is a real business and requires 25 to 30 hours a week but when you want. Anyway, in answer to your question, they do exist, its simply a case of finding a business that can offer support and guarantees without any money exchanging hands. Hope you got yourself sorted
