I look after a loved one, so when he is housebound, I am too.
His disabilities are physical.
May I make a reborning suggestion, take your time, at each stage, and if possible, use photo's of real babies, for reference, in regards to colouring, etc. (Not to make the dolly look like anyone, but if you want to make your reborn into a newborn, you need newborn colouring, or if you want to make your reborn an older baby or toddler, you need to pain in that effect.
I like to hand micro root the hair, it takes days to do this, but the effect is so worth it. (The hair looks like it has grown, and not just been stuck or painted on.) Reborns with wigs, look.........wel wrong, real babies, don't normally have a perfectly styled head of hair, and reborning is not about perfection, but about realism.
I am not keen on young children having reborns, for safety reasons, a toy shop bought dolly, is mass produced and has undergone safety checks etc, before being sold in shops.
A reborn from a shop bought dolly, is no longer a toy, and has been hand trasformed into a one of a kind collectable, and may not comply with safety regulations, due to fibre and fillings.
A fake baby from a new kit, is a Brand new creation, is definatly not going to comply. Hence a lot of reborners stress, they are not intended for young children, to have as play dollies.
I take it you have weighting/fillings, everything you need, to complete your creation.

Forgot to say, good luck with your reborning, everyone has their own wee way of making a reborn, each person has their own style, I guess you could call it. Would love to see your, "Baby," when its complete.
Have uploaded a couple of pics, of some of my creations, so you see what I mean about different, ages of "Baby," you can create.

A couple of years, Hair rooting isn't as scary as it sounds, and it is quite easy, (Just remember to securely glue it on the inside, hehe.)
It takes patience, Micro rooting is great, as the needles are so fine, you don't see a hole in the scalp, where it has gone in.
(The black and white is 2 fake babies, one from a Secrist Sculpt, and the other from a Val Shelton.)
I taught myself to reborn, so I work on making each "baby," more realistic and lifelike than the one before. (Each one is an improvement.)
I have been micro rooting from the start, but the other day, I was on ebay, and found an online ebay shop, that sells reborning supplies at reasonable prices. (You know, mohair, weighting, filling etc.) I also saw they had CD's on rooting hair, wish I had found that shop, when I was first starting out, I basically learnt by trial and error, lol.
I think you can see the micro rooted hair, better on this reborn.

Hi,i have been Reborning now for 3 years ,I first started looking on the INTERNET just type in reborn help you will see lots of free help,Also i started with plain baby bath dolls you can buy for as little as £5,Acrylic paint is a good way to start ,Mix lots of small amounts of paint with little water use many shades for skin tones lots of sponges paper towels,Dap small amout of paint on sponge then dab hard on paper towel to soak up most of the paint then dab on the doll ,All this just to give you an idea of how the paint works,Acetone is a good thing to buy the will remove all paint if you are not happy ,Always use ACETONE out doors ,i will leave you with for the moment, hope it is of help to you.Eli~may.

Yes you're right, it's always best to practice first, before making a reborn, I am always critical of my creations, I always try to get each one, more lifelike than the last.
I take my time and don't hurry, to get the best possible result.
I find that the quality of the vinyl, can make a difference.
I am working on a la moments doll at the moment.
I am replacing her plastic body, with a seamstress made soft one though.
This "Baby," will be for my own collection.

Ellie, may I ask a question, I find I am not very good at naming my creations, how to you come up, with a supply of suitable names, lol?

Thank you Ellie for the names, I've written the list down.
I find painting rooting etc, theraputic, and I enjoy it, but I am not very great at thinking up names, lol.
You're my new hero, hehe.
Whenever I try to think of names, my mind goes blank, (no comments please, hehe.)
I was looking at the photo's of your creation, that "baby," is stunning.
You are really talented. I have added one of my recent creations to this, she needs a name. that will suit her, she is a 22", berenguer reborn.

I reborn mainly for a hobby, (build my own collection hehe.)
I haven't listed any for sale here yet, though no doubt I will do at some point.
I find where I live, now many people have heard of reborns.
As a sole 24/7 carer, I can only reborn when I have time.
I really think your doll is fantastic, I have only been reborning a couple of years, like you I researched practiced and taught myself, so I am always experimenting, trying to improve and am willing to take advice from others who have been reborning longer, and therefore might have learned better ways, if you know what I mean. I think I reborn for the sheer joy of it more than anything else, lol.
If you do list reborns, you deserve to do well with the sale, because yours are brilliant, I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I only joined preloved the other day myself.

wow when i saw this thread i didnt realise what reborn dolls were!! Do you buy them as plain babies to personalise, or make ur own? I think you are all very patient and talented!! Not sure i'd have the patience, myself.
How about Amy, Lucy or Belle for the unnamed one?

Hello dear

You can buy a doll, take it apart, strip the factory paint off, wash it in baby bath, (to remove chemicals,) and then reborn it.

(Hence the word reborn....the doll was reborned from a mass produced dolly, to a unique reborn baby.)

Or you can buy a specially designed kit, that has never been anything else first, same process, but without having any pre~existing paint to remove. The kit vinyl is softer/better to work with.

The doll, I was having probs naming, was a Berenguer doll originally.
She was 20" long, but her head looked too big, for that size body, so I gave her a new seamstress made, fully jointed 22" body. (She is wearing 0~3 month baby clothes.)
I have sat her in a wee chair, she looks great.

They make lovely ornaments, (My auntie, has one of my creations, sleeping on her bed during the day, visitors often ask, who's baby, she's looking after, hehe.)

They also make talking points, as visitors tend to comment. It is impossible to paint and root the same face etc, in exactly the same way, therefore each reborn or fake baby, is unique.

I do know of people who have these one of a kind dolls, and these people intend to keep them and pass them down the family, as unusual heirlooms.

Here's a pic of the aforementioned doll in her chair, so you get some idea, how big 22" is, hehe.
