Hello again, The baby reborn you see next to my name, (The sleeping one in the white knitted outfit) If you look closely at the pic, you will see she is holding something in her right hand. She has a strong magnet, I glued to the inside of her head, with E~6000 glue. What she is holding is a crochet dummy/pacifier, which also contains a tiny industrial strength magnet. To me the dummy is for gimmick purposes, as I am not really keen on hiding a bonnie baby's face, behind a dummy. So most of my creations, don't have magnets. So she has her dummy in her hand, as if she took it out and is holding it. But for you, here's a pic of her with her dummy/pacifier.

HI Nobby, most of my best dolls are made from plain kits this these kits includes head and limbs of my chose with no color to them no eyes no body no hair,I also reborn from play dolls i make a normal play doll look alive with adding color to them and hair if needed,All this is very time consuming but i love the out come that is what keeps me interested also kind words from people like you,IM just adding photo of before and after of a normal little play doll after i reborn it,this little one is 12" and sells for £25 so not bad to start with it ever you decide to have a bash,Also im here if you need any help, regards,ELI~MAY.

ooh i dont think i'd ever have the patience to do something to articulate! I do admire you all though, you are artists in ur own right..putting ur own little "stamp of individuality" to each creation. Keep posting the piccies, i find it very interesting! Wot do u strip the shop bought dolls with and what type of paint do u use to re-colour them?

I use acetone, if I am stripping down a dolly, then I give the the dolly parts a nice warm bath in Johnston's baby bath, this removes all traces of the acetone. Then I allo it to dry naturally for several days. I use the gouche air dry paints. I started off using acrylic, and if truth be told, the very first reborn, ever made, was done with acrylic paint. Acrylic can fade in time, but if the acrylic painted dolly is kept away from direct sunlight, fading should be minimal. If I am doing a reborn, for my granny, I have to use acrylic, as she claims you get a more realistic effect with the acrylic. Personaly I don't see it, ach well. Attached is a photo, of a "baby," I did for my granny, (For her Christmas.) This "creation," was newborn size, and weighed 4lb~3oz.

Hello NobbyThe one I did for granny, at her request, I used acrylic paint. For some strange reason, (known only to herself,) She only likes ones painted in acrylic, hmmm. I't a newborn size baby, she has called Lilly. Added another pic, in case you weren't sure which one I was reffering to.

The thing is Ellie, I can't understand, why gran insists that hers are done in Acrylic,???????She is stunning, by the way, (the pic, of your early reborn,) you really do have a gift/talent for reborning. I love reborning, I do it, for the sheer joy, of creating these little ones. I am always experimenting, and trying to improve, I am my own worst critic.

28 March 2009, 10:37 PM On the above date, I worded a post wrong, what I meant to say was, where I live, many people have NOT heard of reborns. The photo, is of the very first reborn twins I ever created. (They now sit together in the spare bedroom.) Their names are Alex and Allanna, Alex even has tears, I tell visitors, that he is crying, cos his sister hit him, lol. They are 22" long. Reborning is about realism, not perfection, so you can have fun, with your creations, give the dolly tears, snot and dribble, like I did with Alex, or give a dolly a small birthmark or something, hehe.

HI,Funny you say about giving runny nose to reborn doll's,As i make and sell my reborns, most of them i do give runny nose and wet eyes,One lady bought a baby from me she complained it had a runny nose ,I told her it is to add realism she was not happy ,I had to give her £10 back and tell her how she could clean the runny nose, some people still want perfection even in dolls, lol make's me laugh,I do love to give them little imperfections to give them individuality,Elli~May.x

Thats it, I mean the whole point is, a reborn/fake baby, is not supposed to look perfect, it's about indeviduality and realism, if they want a perfect doll, they should buy a mass produced in china vinyl Ashton drake, from a magasine, realistic, with perfect skin etc. Though a lot of reborners, I see are taking apart ashton drake's and reborning them. Reborning is about realism, real skin is not perfect, it has flaws, you are not creating perfection, you are creating realism. A reborn is supposed to be a one of a kind indevidual creation. I like to put wee (often subtle,) indevidual touches, to my creations.

Hello Ellie, how are you?I saw one of your creations on Ebay the other day, so adorable. (I was on ebay, looking for tacky glue, cable ties, E-6000 glue and I needed to replace, my craft knives. I was looking at doll kits as well. There are a lot of choice. You know how real baby heads, always look slightly big for the body. Berenguer kits, heads are more lifelike in that respect. Secrist kits, the heads always seem small, and in perfect proportion to the size of body. If you look at real babies, the heads are seldom in proprortion.............or I too observent to detail?? In regards to the gouche paints, (I can never spell gouche properly, sorry.) Anyway, you apply them the same way you apply genises, they air dry fairly fast, but allow a few days, for paint to cure, they are non fading. Being air dry, no risk of shiney, (oily looking) skin tone, to get, if doll is heated too high, or slightly too long. No risk of melting etc. Your reborns are so real.

Hello dear, I use the needles, without the handle, I find I get more control.Wee tip to keep the vinyl warm for rooting. (heat a heat pack in the microwave, and shove it inside the head,) this will keep the vinyl warm, and more pliable. when it cools, take it out, re~heat and put it back in. The head in the hpoto, was rooted this way. GOOD LUCK HUNNY, can't wait to see your "baby," I bet it will be adorable.

hi,congratulations on your first re born, the needles i find are much better to use with out the wooden handle as some times the can get in the way,Always try to root with needle lying flat and not upright as stabbing best up wards ,Make sure head is well soft by warming it if it is a harder vynle,I find it better also to pack the head well before i root saves lot of needle breaking.
