I purchased a rover 25 1.4 a year ago and have no problems with it until recently.
I was driving down the motorway one day and my engine started to overheat. i was concerned about the problem and took the car to my local garage. The replaced my radiator and i got my car back. For 2 weeks there were no problems. Then the same thing happened again when driving down the motorway. The car went back to the garage and they decided it needed a new water pump. I got the car back again and the same thing happened. Once again back at the garage they put a new water tank on as it was leaking. Set off down the motorway and the same problem occurred again. The car went back to the garage and another new radiator was put on (as they said the first was faulty). The problem still happens now, any ideas? also when it overheats no hot air blows in the car, only cold even when on hot setting

This happens when you have been driving for around 20 to 30 minutes down the motorway. Has happened in town once but this was straight after coming of the motorway.

Any comments would be mostly appreciated

You obviously know your stuff on cars. i have just bought a rover 75 connoisseur. got it my mums after a 6 mile drive and steam was coming out of the area where you apply water for the radiator ( the plastic tank thing) so i filled it up with water coz it seemed to be empty, got home after another 3 mile drive and there was steam again ( is this the thermostat? head gasket? water pump? radiator? or something else that I havent mentioned? )

any one (or more)of the things you mention first things first is there any water in the oil (the oil will have a creamy look or streaks that would been a headgasket blown ,anorher sympton of headgasket is that instead of blowing into the oil it blows into the cooling water causing overheating even worse a cracked cylinder head (lets hope not)
did you not test drive this car if not why not?
first and foremost i would remove the thermostat put the cover back and back flush the cooling system open the heater to full hot then disconnect the top radiator hose from the radiator connect a hose pipe to the top radiator pipe and flush the system, kink the hose now and again then relese it this causes a shock wave and can losen any muck when you have done fill and bleed the system for air do not put the thermostat back and test, if all ok i would get a new thermostat and put it back for the cost, if it still overheats post back on here
