I am new to caravaning, I am looking for a caravan, its got to be 5 berth, my hubby is a fisher man, and a caravan would be ideal, we have got £500 saved up to get one, do you think this will buy us a decent caravan, i really dont know anything about them, but feel this would be a cheap holiday all year round.

£500 is to cheap for a 5 berth caravan
why dont you go for a smaller caravan made late 80s early 90s?
you will need a 1.8 or over engine to pull this caravan

I have a 21yr old daughter, and a 12yr old and both hate bunk beds, so I would need a caravan with 2 double beds so they can share one bed and hubby and me can have the other, thats why i need a 5berth

Buy a Dandy Camper, you will be able to tow with a small car and have two double beds.

Hi Dawn
A Dandy folding camper is a soft top camper with the top made of PVC and not canvas. Unlike a caravan it folds down into the trailer similar to the many canvas top campers on the market. The original Dandy manufacturer went out of business about ten years ago but they are still being made by a new company called Riva, which is accessable on the internet. From the website you will get a good idea what they are. Because they fold down they have minimal wind resistance and are light. I have been using them since 1994 and my second, Dandy Designer model, my second Dandy Camper for holiday in the Loire and Auvergne last summer. I used to tow my Designer model with a Rover Metro without any difficulty.

I have now bought an elderly Esterel C34 Folding caravan with similar characteristics but this will not provide the two double beds you require. My Dandy is now surplus to requirement and I would reluctantly sell, the trouble being it is here in France where I now live, about two hours from Calais in the Haute Somme. Look on the Riva site and if a Dandy would meet your needs I am sure you will find one for sale in the UK with little difficulty.

Best Regards

Bob

thanx My hubby as the saying that you only get what you pay for, and feels that 500 wont get much. I have seen these but have always thought there will be a catch, if they sell for that price, you have made me feel better telling me how much you paid for yours

Find a local caravan service person, they may look at one for you before you buy. Lots to look out for, gas safety in particular, make sure floor okay, no damp obviously.
Best of luck
