this is an automatic ghia and when we start this from cold it will stall until it warms up and then it is fine. is this a problem with any other fiesta of this age. my mechanic can't see an obvious problem.

Mondeo Zetec and Zetec-E engines Markets: All Subject: Engine does not start, engine stalls or engine idle speed hang up Summary Should a customer express concern over the engine failing to start, stalling or idle speed hang up it is possible that the throttle position sensor (TPS) to throttle body sealing bush may be exerting too great a sealing force on the rear side of the TPS causing the TPS to stick and not return to idle. Affected vehicles can also be identified by the build date coding on the throttle body. A sticking TPS can be confirmed by conducting an FDS2000 check and the concern resolved by renewing the TPS sealing bush. This bulletin supersedes pages 1 and 2 of TSB 109/1996 dated 30.08.1996 and features further revisions to the information under `Model'. Please destroy the corresponding pages of the previous edition of this bulletin.

µ 2. Remove the intake air resonator securing nuts and loosen the worm drive clip.
3. Lift off the air intake resonator. µ 4. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor multiplug. µ 5. Disconnect the vacuum hose and remove the intake air resonator.

The illustration shows a Mondeo throttle body built on November 17, 1995. µ 6. Inspect the throttle body to identify the build date. mechanic did what 'fasty' suggested and cleaned it all out etc. but it still hasn't improved start/stall. Is it something you just have to get used to and handle with care when starting up, because it's fine after that?
