when i started work back in the 70's my first job was at a body shop, they had a contract with the local leyland dealer "dutton forshaw" to fix any body related problems, such as water leaks, the number of marinas and allegros we had in was shocking, we seemed to have a production line, as soon as we did one and returned it, the boss would bring back something else
another favourite was the vw camper van, we seemed to have one of them in all the time due to bodywork damage down the side, nothing was ever beaten/pushed out, just filled, i used to like doing them, lol

what do you remember about your first job

Mine was a bit like bas really, started out a a haulage company as a trainee mechanic, but was mainly a gofer and truck n trailer cleaner and taught myself to reverse a 38t MAN by the end of the 2nd week i reversing trailers into the work shops for the lads no problems.

Best parts of the job bein taught how to do donuts in a tractor unit in the wet and doin out of hours breakdowns when 2 mechanics were needed on the job, travellin up to crewe to do a clutch in the snow, cold but 16 and earning silly money.

Bad bits, steam cleaning out a trailer which had been rolled and a car had gone in to the roof...... 23 ton of pickled beetroot to clean up, took me 2 days till the boss was happy.

Ive still yet to take my HGV licence, i think maybe its about time to save up

Hi

LB they wern't oil leaks, it was chassis lubrication, to ward off rust.

Damm garages kept gumming them up, thats why you hardly ever see any 1100 or 1300's around.

Having said that both Ford and Vauxhall used the same principal for the Cortina, Granada, early Cavalier & Carlton. Thats why they didn't bother with underseal!

The Rootes Group approached it dfferently so the Hunter and Avenger had poor steel, no underseal and no oil leaks! and just rusted regardless.

Al

Been away a few days and just got a look at this.
An A90 Al ! this was a relatively big car as far as the A series cars went I Think I seen one of these at a car show way back in the early 90's
Not one of the models that ever gets much of a mention compared to the smaller ones.
"written off with only 310K on clock" ha ha ! I like your enthusiasm and trust in a car with this mileage !!!
