hi we have a 96 auto zetec that was running find till today the temp goes into the red after 20mins or so the fan kicks in then it starts dropping water (it looks like the water is comming from the back of the engine all round the rad,water pump ) is dry no oil in the water or no water spitting out when you turn the car over with a plug out,
any ideas many thanks

plus the rad makes a knocking sound????????

It makes a knocking sound?
Did you crash it or something? if theres a leak round the rad, check the hoses, if the rad is cracked, buy a new rad.

It might be the thermostat, im no mechanic but if you get your engine warmed up, so that the water is circulating all around the engine, once this has been achieved put your hand on the top hose that goes from the engine to the radiator, if this is cold then the thermostat is knackered.
The top hose is fixed to the thermostat with is fixed to the block of the engine, if it doesnt open then no hot water can get into the rad.

thanks i will try that i dont think it gets hot plus i have squezed all the pipes and some feel like they are dry (no water in them)
also on the rear of the coil i have found a broken wire dont know what it is it is on the houseing of the coil
