Hi everyone, Im new here so I am hoping someone can help.....just got a 1999 fiesta ghia with 35K on the clock, full service history and the central locking dosent seem to work properly albeit I can unlock the system with the key fob but car'nt lock the car with the key fob.
The key in the lock does lock the doors if I turn the key to the right.
Should this or is this the only way the system works, any help would be much appreciated.

you could try, asking your ford dealer to have a look but i expect they will charge £60 p-h minimum charge just to look at it, it may be cheaper to buy another one, rover used to be just as bad, i enquired about a new fob, they told me the price, and i thought "HOW MUCH" then of course it needed matching to the system on the car, so that they talk to each other, which they will charge for, oh and then they charge for a new battery for the fob, all in all they wanted about £50
so i went to the local scrappy bought a rover fob for £1, then bought a battery for £2 and then asked on here if anyone knew how to synchronize the fob to the system on the car
it may be differant on fords, but i doubt it, they dont want you to fix it yourself

Its most likely the fob, had this trouble on a 99 plate mondeo, when you push the buttons on the fob do they all make a clicking noise or does the lock button feel like it just pushes without any resistance, if you shake the fob can you hear anything rattle, sometimes the actual button on the circuit board inside the fob comes loose, (breaks off) i re soldered the mondeo fob cos the lock button and unlock button had broke off, you need a steady hand cos the connections are very small. It worked for me now the fob works how it should.
