I have a 2000 (w) Xantia HDI that has covered 11000 miles and has been serviced correctly. I recently checked the water level as the red light came on. When i removed the cap a large amount of black oil came out! The inside of the header tank appears to be full of oil. The engine seems to be running fine with no loss of power. I have the car parked on the drive as i do not want to use it until problem sorted.
My local garage says head gasket but a friend says that it may be oil cooler as the oil is black?
Any ideas?
Thanks for reading

does sound like head gasket.probably blown between the water and oil ports. the oil would be black anyway its a diesel. check oil filler cap see if theres a mayoniase colour. you can also take the dipstick out and let it drip on some tissue if theres water you will get a light ring around the oil stain. good luck
