Amp wiring to battery

Im trying to wire an amp to my brothers ford escort 2000 (w plate), im trying to find the best way of feeding the power lead from under the carpet to the battery compartment which on this car is infront of the passanger side but in a seperate part of the engine (alcove) when lifting up the bonnet. On my care it was easy to get to by drilling through from the passanger footwell but that was on a megane. Obviously i dont want to drill through as i wouldnt be able to see if anything was there on the other side and i dont want to drill into something that might end up being costly. Please help
