2006 RDS Fault

I've tried just about everything I can think of to enter a code into a 2006 RDS. I've tried the unlockmy website, read the manual, searched this forum, unplugged it from the car for a week and reconnected it. Long and short: I have a code, I have read the instructions but the display never flashes >- CODE --- -< and so I cannot use buttons 1-4 to enter the code I have. When I power up, the registration of the car is displayed and when I press select I see CODE ---- but no matter what I do I cannot enter the code I have. Any ideas??

Pity - thought I was going nuts. Have kept the unit in case I can make it work but have temporarily put in a JVC from yesterday's boot fair in Lyneham that I bought for 2 quid. I think I'll remove the innerds and reseat all the ribon cable and see if that helps - let's see if I can find a Torx 10/12!! Thanks for getting back to me
