hi could anyone do me the big favour of letting me know how to change the camshaft oil seal on my ford escort cabbi thanks gsjhuk its the 1.6 efi engine and its a mk 4

this may help assuming you know how to remove the timing belt and install the timing belt correctly, you will need a new belt and tentioner

if you do not know how to set up the timing dont try to do this


Remove

Make a note of the radio keycode.


Note:
Watch out for escaping oil.
2. Disconnect the hose from the power steering pump (if equipped).

1 Disconnect the hose and seal the ends.
2 Remove the cable ties.
Pull out the power steering reservoir and lay it to one side.

3. Remove the upper timing belt cover.


Note:
Lock the timing belt pulley in place with a suitable tool.
4. Release the camshaft timing belt pulley.
5. Remove the timing belt as described in «Operation No. 21 304 0».
6. Remove the camshaft timing belt pulley.

µ 7. Remove the camshaft oil seal.

1 Attach the remover to the camshaft oil seal.
2 Prise out the oil seal.


Note:
Lubricate the oil seal lip and the camshaft running face with oil.
µ 8. Install a new oil seal.

Insert the oil seal in the special tool and draw it in with the bolt of the timing belt pulley as far as it will go.


Note:
Renew the bolt.

Note:
Apply sealant (WSK-M4G320-A) to the thread of the bolt.
µ 9. Install the camshaft timing belt pulley.
10. Install the timing belt as described in «Operation No. 21 304 0».

Note:
Immobilise the camshaft timing belt pulley.
11. Secure the camshaft timing belt pulley.

µ 12. Install the timing belt pulley upper cover.

µ 13. Connect the hose to the power steering pump.

1 Connect the hose.
2 Install the power steering reservoir and secure it with cable ties.

14. Standard finishing operations.

l Connect the battery negative lead.
l Remove the protective covers.
l Enter the radio keycode.
l Reprogram the pre-set radio stations.
l Reset the clock.
15. Bleed the power steering system (if applicable)
