talking to my friends recently, we came to the conclusion that it might be a good idea if speeding fine's and maybe other motoring related offences were based on the value of your vehicle or your earning/salary, as a fairer way of punishing driver's/owners,
why should a company director with a £50,000 bmw pay the same as a young student with a £1,000 corsa, the company director being fined £60 might spend more on his lunch, but a student, £60 is just about one weeks benefit,
so we think a 3% fine for breaking the speed limit is a fair one, ie a £1,000 corsa fine = £30, to the other extreme of a £180,000 super car speeding fine = £5,400. sounds good to me, lol

sorry guy's, i posted this in the wrong wotsit, doh

lol I like it. the idea of the fine is to cause hardship. being as my cars are probably valued at £300 and Im on benifits at present and expect to be in receipt for at least two years. Im happy £9 fine sweet
once you get nine points your insurance will be cheaper too

we started talking about this on the motorway last week, only because of the number of newish or high value stuff that don't stick to the speed limit, or live in the outside lane,
we spotted mainly luxury 4x4's or high performance stuff that seem to drive at 95+ mph all the time, unless they get held up of course, lol

i dont think that the boss would be very happy if the rep's passed this expense on, ie a £20,000 bmw rep mobile, fine for speeding, = 3% of value = £600, that will slow them down, lol

Hi Bas & Tommy

I think you both missed the point, speeding is wrong, against the law, and down right dangerous!

If you cant afford the fine dont do the crime!

Regardless of the value of the car, the points add up the same, these twits with the big Chelsea Tractors, the Star, 3 letters and big L, if they loose their licences they become a major embarismant to their firms and many can loose their jobs, with the current crunch companies are not employing chauffers for them.

Seriously though, if you have ever seen the carnage of a motor accident, seen a childs body removed, or a child asking why they are taking the roof off to get mummy & daddy out?. Or worse going to a house to tell a couple their child has been knocked down and killed by a speeding driver.

A speed limit is the MAXIMUM permitted not a GUARANTEE that it is safe to travel at that speed, apart from that - go to fast and I cant see the reflection of the yank in the shop windows !

Al

al neither of us condoned speeding but I do feel have the speed limits are perfectic some to hi some to low. In other contry they speed limits for different times of the day. I cant say as I've dealt much with major accidents but have seen people being put in body bags and know many a crash victim of persons run over. In Every case of a pedestrian being run over I know it was their own stupidity. As regards to dearer faster cars they are more than capable of handling 100mph, but it then comes down to the driver. Being capable of driveing the machine and also being aware that you cannot trust any driver, vehicle, person, animal ect on the road unless you know them, their cars abillity in relation to the conditions at the time. I think true stastics would auctaully comfirm that most accidents happen within the speed limit. Well TOUCH WOOD. I know all mine have. Infact not speeding to work one night, I wrote my car off. If Id have been going 60 instead of 50 Id have been in the other lane and not beihind the silly women who stopped at a clear roundabout.

yeah, all im saying is that people who are lucky enough to have the money, can afford the fines, it doesn't stop them speeding or parking on double yellow lines, or in disabled parking bays,
the do as they like brigade, do as they like, it would be fairer, if you had a £25,000 toyota twin-cab or bmw x5 would you risk parking where you shouldn't and get a 3% of vehicle value fine of £750, you might do it once, lol
ok, so ive only got old mondeo, that's all i can afford, so a 3% of value fine would hit me just as hard,
it would stop these idiot's bombing round town like a race track, but thats where these average speed camera's will come in, if you drive too quickly from point A to point B you will be fined, in principle its a good idea,
