i have a diesel mondeo estate 1.8 lx td (2000 x reg)
having problems with my water pump (whining)
is it easy to replace

you need to support the engine and be competent in setting up the timing belt, also renew the belt do not use the old one


Water Pump — 1.8L Diesel


Special Service Tool(s)


Support bar, engine

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable

2. Drain the cooling system. .

3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Remove the engine undershield.

µ 5. Remove the timing belt lower shield.

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
8. Detach the pipe support bracket.

9. Detach the power steering pump and bracket.

10. Note:
The lifting eye must take up the load.

Install the engine support bar.

11. Remove the engine mounting bracket.

12. Disconnect the water pump coolant hose.

13. Remove the power assisted steering pump drive pulley.

14. Remove the timing belt cover.

15. Detach the coolant reservoir.

16. Remove the engine mount.

17. Remove the timing belt.
18. Detach the coolant hose.

19. Remove the water pump and coolant hose.

20. Remove the coolant hose from the water pump.


Installation

1. Note:
Install a new water pump gasket.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

2. Note:
Use new nuts. Make sure the engine mounting is not under strain. If necessary, lower the engine on the engine bracket far enough for the bracket to be fitted free from strain.

Fit the front engine mounting.

3. Fill the cooling system.
