The battery failed on our 1997 FIESTA (1.25 ZETEC-S), we replaced the battery and as expected the ECU went into learning mode but it does not seem to have learnt very well.

The rev limiter cuts in at 4800 RPM under load but will rev freely when stationary up to 7000 RPM also it also requires a lot more revs than previously to pull away.

Any ideas how to perform a full system reset - we have tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes but in my opinion this is not a satisfactory method, electronic systems need to be reset rather than just rebooted....

I delved into teh Haynes manual a bit deeper and apparently you are supposed to let the car idle up to operating temperature then rev at 1200 RPM for two minutes and then drive it for 5 miles - no doubt with an eye of newt in the fuel tank and a dead frog tied to the drivers mirror - on a Tuesday.. lol
