omega problem ????

Hi to all, Pete here, bit of advice please. Omega is running, but uneven, when i do the 'paper clip' diagnostic thing, keeps saying 'CRANK SHAFT SENSOR' so i bought a new one and it will not start with that one. just wondering if i was given the right sensor at a cost of £48.00.
ok, tech bit, 2.0 litre, 1994 model, X20XEV, siemens simtes 56.0/ 56.1 management system.
the question is, what sensor should i have ???. thanks for any replies, Pete.
