ive just repaired this problem in my synergie, the front roof console where the 2 courtesy lights and the centre light which comes on with the doors opening must be removed. once removed look very carefully at the back of the centre switch , there should be a tiny little strip of copper that runs across the back of the plastic switch , if this is broken or corroded none of the lights come on.

It took me a day to find this problem, hope it helps.

Hi there, can you tell me of any other electrical problems in your car they may be related, also the age of your car as there are quite a few variations in internal components.

I will attach some photos of the general area, unfortunately i have finished the job now and cant take anymore to help.

My Synergie is R reg 1998 and this is a guide to what i have done on mine.

If the copper strip is connecting ok and the other lights seem to work ok,( i am assuming that you have checked lamps) there is another thing that could be wrong with them, i have repaired this on mine also, be ready for at least a whole days work to repair this one.

Under the central console and carpet there is a central loom that runs in a plastic conduit left to right the full width of the car(just about where your heel goes down when you drive), you should be looking to find bad solder joints within the cables( it was dead center of the car that i found the joints , right infront where the gear linkage cables go into the engine bay i found several joints that looked badly green, cleaned them up and connected them together. there were more than one set of cables that needed repairing.

if i remember rightly my lights on warning started working also after fixing this problem, must be the combined earth of the cables that i re-connected.

i really must restate how bad a job this was to fix, the front chairs need to be unbolted, half of the dash to be removed, the bottom half of the heater, side trims by the doors and then the carpet lifted, if you can live without the courtesy lights then do so, but if you are like me and hate things not working properly get your tools cleaned and ready.

I found the reason for these cables being so corroded, at some point someone had removed the cover that hides the windscreen wiper mechanisms and had not resealed it properly and some how water had gone down the inside of the bulkhead and was lying under the carpet, on the passenger side. After stripping this all back and resealing it i have had no more water in the heavy rains.
