got a w reg rover 45. done head gasket as it went. new head bolts, had head skimmed, new gasket.

car is now very difficult to start, even after it has been running sometimes it just simply wont start. it takes ages to get it going, then ticks over very unevenly.

also after about 5 minutes the water get extremely hot and starts to boil over. checked all pipes and even took the little ball bearing out from the inlet manifold and thermostate out and it still boils over. pipes get on on the in and out going pipes on heater matrix but no hot air???

having spent £250 on it im frustrated now.

some-one help

Hi, poor running sounds like timing could be out slightly.

Not sure about the rest but there are a couple of experts on here so I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.

Sounds like you have an air lock in the heater matrix. Take the top heater hose off to bleed it. Also flush it with a hose & the radiator. If still overheating then maybe the pump is not doing it's job. I trust the fan is cutting in.
It does sound like you could have valve timing probs, have you done a compression test. Did you drive it far when it overheated before, maybe the rings have gone. Only other thought is if you have connected the wrong temp sender to the ecu & the choke is not working.
