ok,,,i got the old speedo problem with my 1.8 manual. pet.. yes i remember this prob was on watchdog couple years ago regarding the speedo switching off,,,well its happening randomly (somtimes car drives great for days) plus the odd light coming on when driving,, i remember them saying that if you take out the console from dash and spray the circuit board with wd40,, it can work as a short time fix,,,,... well also when the said problem happens,,, the engine is also stalling while slowing down,, say at a roundabout ....am gonna take out the console an check board for dry joints........any advise welcome ...i will get this sorted but i aint goin to ford.....ps could the ignition be on way out as somtimes i have to turn key (again randomly) it can be difficult to start? or is this the vss?

new set of clock from ford £50 trade cost with the vat,fitted loads check your pipe under the inlet manifold and make sure its not split

a common fault whe the vss fails is that the speepo does not read when the car is rolling slowly also the digital odometer stops working along with some cuting out or loss of power
